DL 777 In DFW Today

Wed Dec 28, 2005 2:12 pm

Was browsing through the schedules today and noticed that Delta sent a 777 to DFW. It was flight 267 and then turned 973 back to ATL. Not sure of the reason for the equipment change, but the flight was full both ways. I think this is the first time they've had a regularly scheduled flight using this equipment. Last time I think a DL 777 was at DFW was when they bought em new back in the late 90s.

I know DL makes a lot of money from freight/cargo on this route, and looking at the computer, it went out with 40,000 pounds of cargo to DFW. Would be smart in my opinion to send more wide bodies to DFW. Even if they don't fill them up (which they usually do), the freight alone would pay for the trip.

If anyone got any pics of this bird in DFW, be sure and post them!

With their recent plans for expansion to Europe, I dont believe that will happen. All their widebodies will be used between hubs, across the pond, to hawaii, and to florida. I dont think DL has any widebodies to spare.

Well, they certainly used to fly 764s and M11s here... and a slew of L-1011s in the day... did they never do 777 service? Well, with only 8 of them, I guess maybe not.

Did we never have a Delta 777 DFW-ATL or DFW-MCO routing? I was thinking we had, at one point.

Since there are currently only 8 DL 777s, and at least two are always needed for ATL-NRT (beyond the range of the 763ER), plus the high-business-demand ATL-EU routes, I doubt there will be many regularly scheduled intra-U.S. 777 routes on DL at least until they get the next five in a few years. They're not even shown as being available for charter.

IIRC, the main reasons they do short high-demand routes ex-ATL are to make money off a "spare" that's still nearby in case another needs maintenance and to increase utilization when the planes are between transcon flights.

I love the 777 in DL livery. I wish they had gone with more of the 772 versus the 764.

Did anyone get a shot of the DL 772 at DFW today?

I got this snap of a DL 767 last time I was through DFW.

Took this one of the "Dueling 757's" also at DFW. I miss DL at DFW.

Didn't someone post that DL had a 772 in PHX yesterday also?

What is up with them using their 772s on domestic routes? Substituting for a 762 or 763 temporarily out of service?

Perhaps the routes that would normally use the 777s were cancelled or downgraded for the holidays. Continental has been doing the same for the holidays--767s went to FLL, TPA, LAS, LAX as well as Latin America--the 777s have been south of the border as well.

DL has 2 spare 777's this month. Only 1 is scheduled to operate on its down time (LAX). The other sits around for 11 hours, so it has been substituted on various routes because of 757/767's being used for charters.
It's a big building with patients, but that's not important right now.

So do I. I would like them to also add DFW-BOS direct service. I use to fly this from time to time, and it was always full.

Now the only way to go direct DFW-BOS is on AA, and you pay through the nose, plus an arm and a leg. But, AA did provide a free service to me that DL never did. They sent my baggage to MIA for free.  Wink

It was an equipment sub for a 763 for the day. The flight continued on to JAX and it was Ship 7003. It is not uncommon for JAX to get 777's on a regular basis with aircraft swaps. Usually 4 or 5 times a year, but always a good sight. Good thing too, since the JAX flights were heavily overbooked and needed a larger ship.
