Any 717 News Out There?

Thu Dec 29, 2005 2:43 am

It is very quiet around the 717, which is no surprise as Boeing isn't take any orders on it.
I am wondering what the operators of the small 717 fleets (Aebal, Bangkok Air, Olympic) will do? Will they dispose of its 717 or add more if available?
Has anyone news? Thanks a lot.

717fan,
You forgot to mention Air Tran Airways. According to their website, they want to add more 717 and 737s.

Read the bottom page of this link:

With the 717 production winding down the only way FL will be able
to obtain more 717's is if the above mentioned 717 operators decide
to not be 717 operators anymore.

Almost all of the world's supply of 717's will be with FL, kinda like the USAF and the 707  wink

Unfortunately the last 717 is now being built. I had the opportunity to fly on it many times will FL and enjoyed it immensely. I wish it had more success in the marketplace.

I think that Midwest actually gets the last 717, but I could be wrong on that.

True AirTran gets the last one built and Midwest gets the last one delivered. At least that's what I was told by someone at work. He also said they might try and set it up so Midwest and AirTran take delivery on the same day and have some kind of ceremony. That will be a sad day.

AirTran will take delivery of the last MD-95 (717-200) built and it will be the last one delivered as well. The last two aircraft (both AirTran) will be delivered in June 2006 as it stands now, though the aircraft will be completed in early 2006.

I am co-authoring a story on the last MD-95 and we are following it through the entire production process. I photographed the nose section on the nose dock, barrel sections and wing sections in early December inside Building 80 at LGB.

I guess I stand corrected then because you obviously know what you are talking about. I was told Midwest was taking the last delivery by our representative who goes out to Long Beach to pick up the new airplanes.
If I remember correctly isn't Midwest also taking delivery of thier last one in June?

Bangkok Airways, now operating 4, are rumoured to be getting 2 more later this year. One factor influencing choice is limited size of Samui airport – the 717 is the largest jet that can get in.

Not true, the A32X/737 is the largest jet capable of landing at USM (Samui), the airport even advertises it (well used to)  Smile The only reason PG doesn't operate the A320 to USM is that they are needed on other routes (longer)  Smile
