Co AUS-LAX Normal?

Thu Dec 29, 2005 8:57 am

So I did a quick segment (mileage) run today IAH-AUS-IAH and pulled up next to a CO 764 in Austin. I certainly did not expect to see that. So I walked over to the gate to see where it was heading. LAX. Is this a normal flight? Flytecomm shows it as 1909 which is a normal CO flight number. But I did a status check for 1909 on continental.com and it showed as invalid flight normal. Anyone know anything about this flight? Is it a normal scheduled flight?

I am guessing it is a charter to bring the UT football team to Pasadena to play USC in the Rose Bowl.

Yup. See this earlier thread, plus confirmation from CO employee:

The CO 19XX flight numbers are charters.

Interesting to note that Rutgers got a 777 charter EWR-PHX for their unsuccessful Insight Bowl appearance, yet Texas gets a 767 for the National Championship Game!

More evidence that CO loves Jersey more!

Ok. I will be the first to admit I do not know sqwat about airline operations. But, where did they pluck a 764 from that they could afford to charter. Granted it is paid for, but I thought CO was widebody short.

Euro loads are weak during the holidays. So many flights don't operate--hence all the widebody subs to Latin America and other domestic cities, as well as sports charters.
