CSA Back To Newark And No More Swiss Codeshare

Fri Dec 30, 2005 9:52 am

CSA annouced that they will fly back to Newark as of 19.5.2006 three times a week in Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. Equipment will be A310, the only longhaul plane in CSA fleet.

Another new is that CSA is ending the codeshare with Swiss International Air Lines as of 25.3.2006. The three LX flight to ZRH will only be served as "LX" and only two flight (operated by CSA, duhhh) will be served as "OK".
Good and bad news. Glad to see CSA back in EWR but it hurts to see go away a codeshare.
Wishing you the best to 2006,

If they go to EWR, the DL codeshare on the PRG-JFK will also go...

Think positive. Maybe CO put its code on PRG-EWR. Will it cheer you up?  Smile

And about c/s changing because of alliance movements... (sorry if this lowers your mood)

I don't know how long it will last... but MAD-PRG and BCN-PRG IB codeshares on CSA will surely go away too

These flights are useless for feeding the Iberia's longhaul routes.... Air Europa and CSA are being alliance partners soon and UX already serves PRG and the IB agreement seems to be block-space (the price on IB flight is 3 times the OK flight). Also IB and OK are going to be localed really far from each other in MAD in a month....

so i just suppose the UX agreement is a more "natural" one... time will tell

OK is a member of SkyTeam and JFK and EWR are both SkyTeam hubs but EWR is a much bigger hub for Continental. JFK is more than a focus city but not a hub for Delta. There are many more connecting opportunities at EWR than JFK, so it makes sense.

Well since SWISS is going into star alliance in a couple of days,
this is sadly unevitable...

I think CSA will do a good job on the EWR route!
the CO factor will help a lot.

BTW, does CO flies to Prague?
What time is top of descent?

Where else do CSA fly the A310s? I gather from this thread that they stopped flying the North Atlantic for a while, and presumably they are now back. Which is great, I like Eastern Europe and it's nice to see their airlines do well and fly the flag in NY or Bangkok etc. So they must have other uses for the planes.

So where else gets the A310? AFAIK they don't do SE Asia so is it Dubai? London?
fly Saha Air 707s daily from Tehran's downtown Mehrabad to Mashhad, Kish Island and Ahwaz

The following is a list of Sky Team JFK Domestic Non Stop Destinations:

Continental Airlines

-Cleveland
-Houston

Delta Airlines/Delta Connection/Song

-Atlanta
-Austin
-Baltimore
-Boston
-Charlotte
-Chicago.ORD
-Cincinnati

-Ft Lauderdale
-Ft Meyers

-Pittsburgh
-Raleigh
-St. Louis
-Salt Lake City
-San Antonio
-San Francisco

Northwest Airlines

So the presumption that New York.JFK is inferior to domestic connections is widely lost on the ideals of misconception. True JFK is not Newark, however, there are more than enough connections for Sky Team passengers in the JFK market.

No, OK has maintained JFK and YUL services; only EWR-PRG was dropped for the past few months.

They fly to CMB via DXB (used to be extended all the way to MLE), but they will axe CMB soon. Not smart decision if you ask me (the present CEO of CSA is an idiot so what else to expect), year after tsunami the tourism in Sri Lanka is picking up and they're pulling out.

They also use two of its A310s for charter flights down to Fortaleza, Brazil and Porlamar, Venezuela

That sucks. The LH codeshare was also great, offering good connection to MUC and FRA. Well, if you are technically "under siege" of STAR flag carriers it's hardly surprising.

As a side note, who else is flying the A310 across the pond besides CSA?

Proof that airport codes are the hardest thing in the word to change: LED, the code for Leningrad, even though that name technically hasn't existed in a while. Heck, Beijing is PEK for Peking, which it hasn't been since the KMT fled mainland China in 1949!!

Best of luck to CSA!

You´re right. CSA is not dropping JFK. They actually never stopped flying to JFK. They dropped EWR for 7 months only (have no idea why they did this, it makes no sense).
Regarding CMB., I thinks its stupid (as Let410Turbolet said) to drop it now, when tourism is starting to grow in Sri Lanka. Well, from Tvrdik you never know...

Yep.. sorry folks, my mistake... I looked up the timetable for this week and JFK is operated Monday, Friday and Sunday instead of daily as ussual... I thought it was only 3x weekly and as the EWR route is to be 3x weekly..... that was my mistake...

But there's something i don't get... Why would CSA (a small airline regarding long-haul) serve NYC 10x weekly into two airports? Wouldn't be wiser to fly into EWR or JFK but not both?

There are lots of Czechs living in New Jersey as well as in Long Island and Connecticut. So both airports can fill a A310. Also, there are lots of premium travelers to NYC or from USA to PRG (which is going to be in the near future an important financial and bussines center in Europe).
I still think CSA would fill planes to ORD and they should drop instead YUL. People from YUL can drive to YYZ. YYZ can satisfy the Canadian market.
Hope to see also a longhaul fleet renewal soon. I will be between the 787 and A350, but since CSA is (still) a small airline, I think they will go for the 787.

Have you ever driven from Montreal to Toronto? It's like, nine hours. You may as well say CSA can shut down and everyone in Prague can drive to Warsaw and fly LOT.

So give Montreal a red card and serve Chicago instead huh? I wonder where your US relative live?

And why is it that you would like these codes to change? These two at least have historical background. Many airport codes in US and Canada have nothing to do with the city or airport name. Or at least nothing that a common person would see. On the other hands look at these codes as three character codes used in computer systems. Most travelers do not recognize them anyway. It's just us - maniacs...

According to SKyguide, CSA flies 3 weekly YYZ and 2 weekly YUL. I wonder why they do not combine both cities in a triangular flight. That way, they can serve both cities 5 weekly offering a lot more choice and only slightly less convenience. And like KL does at it's ariabian routes, by changing the triangle on certain days, they can even offer non-stops to both cities both directions for those who really prefer that.
