Uzbekistan Airways Routes And Info

Fri Dec 30, 2005 5:32 pm

I have flown Uzbekistan Airways a couple of times LHR-TAS-BKK 2 years back and found them to be quite an interesting operator. Before I booked I noticed that there was consistently no discussion on here, and even now its never talked about. Therefore I've decided to start this thread simply on any aspects of this operator. I have just booked LHR-BKK but before hand called HY travel in London, their GSA and for the 3rd time in a year they are twice the Price of Etihad to BKK. In comparison 2 years back they were the cheapest to BKK from London at around 360-70GBP NOW its more like 580-650GBP.I thought Uzbekistan were reliant on connecting traffic? at those prices the aircraft must have light loads these days. Any info appreciated.

Hi

I have not flown them on longhaul but on a domestic flight from Tashkent to Urgench. They used a RJ85. I found then professional and the service was fine, even a hot meal on this 1 hour plus sector.

The aircraft departeed from the new domestic terminal at TAS. They have now completely refurbished the international terminal as well.

From Europe they fly A310's, B767-300ER's and B757-200's. FRA/LHR/CDG/ATH/AMS-TAS.

Quite true...

ive seen all 3 of those types at BHX, actually Im not sure about the Airbus but the 2 boeings definatley have been at BHX.
From what I remember the loads going to TAS and onwards were always good... a lot of connex traffic onto the indian sub continent.
Also as I remember the JFK traffic loads were equally good.
Im not sure of the JFK clientele ex BHX but a lot of the traffic was originating from TAS or DEL.

the 767's are beautiful looking ships !

istanbul gets a fair mix of their aircraft, it's mostly the A310 though, as far as prices go....i dont know much about the airline to comment on that.
The only time there is too much fuel onboard, is when you're on fire!

I feel the same way, but not just about Uzbekistand but also Turkmenistan.
Turkmenistan has consistently served BHX with flights to Ashghabad and onwards to Amritsar succesfully (well, with high loads at least) way before AI served Amritsar from BHX.
They have a nice modern fleet of 717's n 737's....
Its a shame that they really dont get too much appreciation ... I personally feel we all get caught up talking about the 'big' airlines and forget the smaller ones ...

I've always been a fan of Uzbekistan Airways as well. They actually have a very robust route network for an airline of their size, although most routes are served only one, two or three times a week from Tashkent.

I just got the newest (Winter 2005-2006) Uzebekistan Airways timetable, and it shows service from Tashkent to:

The New York flight (HY101/HY102) make a stop at Riga, Latvia and not Birmingham. Anyone know if it's possible to book a flight with them from Riga to JFK or is that a fuelstop only?

They don't fly to AMS anymore, but used to do so in the past, by 763 and sometimes A310 aircraft.

IIRC they got a ex.TWA 752. How are the loads on the JFK flight. Can they carry pax between BHX and JFK? And does anybody know a site where I can find a pic of their ARJ's?

That flight used to go via Belgrade in code-share with JU but the flight was stopped, apparently due to poor service but I think JAT terminated the agreement because of its own JFK plans.

Fascinating to see where they fly to, and what equipment. Thank you Jsnww81.

Slightly tangential but I bet Mr Boeing never imagined the cold war era 757 would be used to fly schedules between Tashkent and Simferopol or Ekaterinberg.
fly Saha Air 707s daily from Tehran's downtown Mehrabad to Mashhad, Kish Island and Ahwaz

Now seriously, is this really the Ilyushin 14, a piston airliner ?
Exceptions confirm the rule.

My mistake on the JFK en route stop.

And yes, according to the timetable, it's listed as IL14. I don't know if that's shorthand for some other Ilyushin aircraft, but the Ilyushin 14 makes the most sense.

I'd be interested to see how their network compares against Turkmenistan Airlines, although to my knowledge Turkmenistan doesn't publish a timetable. At least not one I've ever seen!  Smile

My ex-girlfriend is from Uzbekistan. She is here going to school so she flies with them between TAS and JFK via Riga, Latvia on their 763, can't recall the flight numbers but the entire flight was conducted by Uzbekistan Airways.

I had several interesting interactions with their reps. in N.Y. trying to sort out her travel arrangements as the ticket office in her city was always closed. The reps. I spoke with were not the most polite, efficient, organized, or informative. But the important thing is she departed and arrived many times safely and on-time.

I'm not sure that HY are in business to make money, but rather to serve as some sort of advertisement for Karimov and his government. The Uzbeks are quite proud that HY fly to a large number of places and the airline has it's own exhibition in the National Museum in Tashkent, alongside the apparently prestigious Tashkent Open tennis tournament.

Like Persotvik, I have only flown HY shorthaul, as described in this this frustrating trip report. It was reassuringly unspectacular and typically Soviet.

You can't really compare any carrier's fares to those of EY who are attempting to win as many customers as possible with the assistance of the Abu Dhabi government. Maybe the Uzbeks have finally decided to charge semi-realistic fares for their longhaul flights? Or just maybe the HY office in London has no more consolidated fares to sell. There is a lot of oil traffic into Uzbeksitan (but yet I can't see oil companies sending their employees on HY instead of BA or AF) so maybe they are getting their money's worth from these folk.

Quoting Scanwing (Reply 9):

HY do have rights RIX-JFK. When I went through the madness that was Tashkent immigration, there were lots of Uzbek looking people shouting in strong American accents as they struggled in vain to jump the queues and get to their flight. From my people watching, it seemed that the huge majority of people were en route to JFK, leaving a small proportion of seats for the RIX-JFK sector.
I need to get laid
