Any FF Program As Generous As TWA's?

Sat Dec 31, 2005 1:38 am

As someone who was a TWA Aviators Member I was wondering is there any Frequent Flier program as generous as there's was? It was very easy to book a flight and you didn't need to book a month in advance. Also a flight to Europe during the winter was only 40,000 miles. I used to fly JFK to Europe (usually LIS) twice a year and I racked up over 100,000 miles on them and they became Advantage Miles on AA, but I found AA was much more stingy and so I used them all up. Right now I have and Aeroplan membership on Air Canada and it's also not as good for me as TWA's was. Here's a link to the awards chart on TWA's website.

I don't know, but every time I look for an available mileage seat on TWA, I can't seem to find one...

I think part of it is the serious downturn in the economy -- especially as far as airlines are concerned. I was looking at the booklet NW sent when I signed up for Worldperks (2000, so about the same time as the TW award chart) and it wasn't too much worse than the TW chart, but if you look at what it takes now to redeem a seat... At least 5,000 and possibly 10,000 more miles.

Airlines are always tweaking their FF programs...

United lets you buy a roundtrip w/ only 15,000 miles provided it's within 750 miles of the hub airport (SFO, LAX, DEN, ORD, IAD) you connect in.

I was going to ask if FF programs have been cut back since September 11. I'd imagine in the US with the legacy carriers having the problems that they do that there would have been some reductions. I was once told that TWA's program was more generous simply because they could not offer the worldwide service that the larger carriers that were part of alliances offered and they only had a few codeshare partners.

The best part is the airline alliance... You can earn frequent flier miles with TWA, Eastern, Pan Am, Swiss Air, Air South, Air Florida, and Tower Air!

For a limited time only. and it has to be Non-stop, no connecting is allowed.
