Pax B707 & DC8

Sat Dec 31, 2005 6:36 pm

Does anyone know if there are any reputable airlines still flying the B707 or DC8? Are there any airlines still flying the B727? It seems that all of my favorite airliners are being quickly retired. My all time favorite, the B727, is gone (Pan Am I think maybe the only ones left); the MD-11 and DC-10's are going into history... Before they are gone forever, I would really love to get a ride on a B707 or DC8.

Sorry Mopar I don't think there are any airlines flying left flying pax DC-8's or 707's, at least not in North America. The last airline to fly DC-8's in the U.S. was Rich International but they folded a few years back.

There are 707 and DC-8 biz jets out there but I don't think you have enough money to charter one. Get to know John Travolta he has his own 707. Maybe he'll give you a ride.  Wink

MX757,

I will have to ask Mr. Travolta, but that would be truely wishful thinking. A couple of years ago I was traveling in East Africa and booked a flight from Mombassa to Kampala on what was to have been a B720. I was so excited, until I saw the aircraft. It turned out to be an A300

DC-8: Nothing left carrying pax in regular service. ATI may still have a pax compartment on some of its AMC DC-8 channel flights.

707: There is an airline in Iran that flies the 707 on regular domestic scheduled routes, but I think one of those two (2) aircraft may have crashed (and wound up W/O). Good luck.

Sadly there aren't any passenger DC-8's left, all the ones left flying are cargo or VIP/business aircrafts.

The passenger 707 you are looking for is this one, operated by SaharaAir of Iran.

As for passenger 727's, there are a sizable number still flying, but no many left in Europe and the USA.

For the 727 at least Syrianair, Iran Air and Iran Asseman still fly them around. Probably some carriers in Peru, Ecuador (TAME?), Indonesia and Nigeria as well.
Perhaps a search in the photo database for these counties may help.
As far as I know no more pax 727's in Europe.

Come on down to Tinker! I have 8 big ol' biz size pax seats in the back of the E-3 (707-320B) you can fly in (but there are no windows) Big grin

Sadly though, the 727 is your best(only) bet for CivAv in North America these days.

First Air still has a 727, flying north.

It's SAHA AIR.
They were using 2 B707-300 until last April 20th 2005, when EP-SHE crash-landed at Mehrabad airport, serving Tehran.

Only EP-SHU remains now in service now with SAHA AIR. It is mainly used on flights between THR and Kish Island, but also Mashad, Dubaï, and even sometimes for charter to IST.
Flying this beauty is like travelling in time, back in the 60s : no overhead bins, and a seat pitch up to 36" in Y !!!

Thank you, each and every one. I do feel a bit better now. There is no way I'm going to Iran to ride on a B707; and I doubt that I could get a ride on an USAF KC-135 or E-3  rotfl  It's just that, well I guess that we all know how it goes: You want to do something, and then professional and/or educational responsibilities get in the way. The last time I flew on a B727 was in 2000 from ATL to IAD on Delta. I thought, ohh yeah no problem I can fly the good ole B727 again on that route. Six months later when I got around to it, it was an MD80.

Have you checked LADE? It's part of the Argentine Air Force and they still have an ex-AR 707 operational in passenger service. My son flew on this aircraft in March '05 from Calafate to Buenos Aires with one stopover, (2 takeoffs and ladings!  Smile ). He enjoyed it very much...

From what I have heard the fares are very reasonable, the aircraft is in good condition and the onboard service is good. The only problem seems to be the scheduling, which changes depending on the needs of the AAF.

Their website is www.lade.com.ar.

Best regards.

Juan

I have been going out to the ramp a good bit lately and seeing a lot of freighter DC-8s. I did not realize how large a plane they are. These things are huge. I never appreciated the size looking at pictures.

Along with that, the 727's are looking awesome out there too. The yellow and red looks good on both planes.
