Aerolineas Argentinas The "WN" Of South America?

Sun Jan 01, 2006 6:36 am

I was going to go CO 51 to EZE and was looking to see if we had a zonal or ID90 agreement with AR. In checking around I was told that AR is like the WN of South America and has no agreements with any other airline. Is that so? Wanted to visit the Glacier National Park in Patagonia. Guess I pay full fare now if I want to go.

Well you dont have many choices of airlines in Argentina. I was looking thru their website, and no, they dont have any codeshare agreements with any airline this side of the planet but they do have codeshares with Spanair of Spain. Heres a link to their website of the partner companies.

I believe that AR really should start cooperating with more carriers from the Americas. They definitely need a U.S. codeshare partner. AM-Transportes Aereos Meridionais (Brazil)">JJ and AM would also make a lot of sense as codeshare partners. In addition to that, AR could also enter into mileage accrual/redemption agreements with other carriers.

I am sure that doing that would also help AR attract more passengers.
Next flights: MEX-LAX AM 738, LAX-PVG DL 77L, SHA-PEK CA 789, PEK-PVG CA A332, PVG-ORD MU 77W, ORD-MEX AM 738

Strange. The last issue of DL's Sky that I read does not show AR in the list of DL Worldwide Partners, only the SkyTeam members, AirJamaica, Alaska Airlines, Avianca, China Airlines, China Southern, El Al, Emirates, flybe, Malaysia Airlines, Royal Air Maroc, Singapore Airlines, South African Airways and Virgin Atlantic.

Do you have info on the flights in which they codeshare? Or is it a mileage accrual and redemption agreement?

It isn't a codeshare, DL only connects pax to/from AR's flights.

AR is a full-service airline. They are nothing like WN. GOL is more like your WN in South America.

I meant WN in terms of interline agreements for employees.

Totally False... Aerolineas Argentinas has a proud history as being one of the oldest and most profound of South American airlines. So be it, that they dont see the need to offer every one that works in the industry a bunch of freebies. "Viva el Condor"

Not to be smart or anything but what part of zonal fare or ID90 threw you? As to the rest, are you saying that WN doesn't have a long and proud history? And I wasn't looking for a freebie, I was looking for the same courtesy we extend to many other airlines as is extended to us, published and not.

Southwest and Scenic have a pass arrangement....even tho' it doesn't get the WN employee very far unless they're going to Ely or Merced....from VGT.

ID-90 is as close to a freebie as you can get.... As far as courtesy, why should AR offer your airline anything, what do you offer them?

CO offers basically the entire domestic US as well as a variety of cities around the world that AR doesn't fly to.

AR used to have ID90 agreements with most airlines per IATA rules. When AR went into Argentina's version of Chapter 11 (convocatoria de acreedores), in 2000, the agreements were cancelled (not sure by whom). When the new AR administration (Viajes Marsans) took control, late in 2001, their first order of the day was to bring the airline finances back to health so the ID90 agreements were not a priority for the airline. Still to this day, with AR out of Chapter 11, in reasonable good financial health, and still, no ID90 interline agreements for airline employees anywhere to be seen. Friends who work at AR report it is due to some outstanding debt with IATA that AR is disputing as a result of Chapter 11. AR employees can only get passes (pasajes SUBLO is how they are called by AR) with their own airline, of course, and with Spanair and AirPLus Comet, both airlines linked to Viajes Marsans in some shape or form.

Happy New Year from DC!

A recip agreement would allow them to zonal or ID90 anywhere CO goes which I believe is a lot farther than they go now. ID90 is basically standby anyway so it's not like you're boarding prior to first class. Ever hear of professional courtesy?

DCAjet, thanks for the info. That really clears things up. Shame they can't resolve the dispute and help their employees out.

Yes, I understand your point, when AR becomes fit again that will be the only hope for a return on the CO 1D-90. Until then, why should they have ID-90 in markets like Miami, New York, Rio de Janeiro, Rosario, Rome, Cordoba, Sao Paulo, or others where they can sell a seat?

AR staff have interline IDs with Spanair, AirPlus Comet Air France. From what I understand their perks are very good, and cover most of the world between them. You would probably need to know someone who is high enough to authorise it in AR to get the ID, I know it is possible though.

Try to get in contact with an AR Sales Manager in Miami, or an AR Supervisor or Station Manager in New York or Miami.

I'm not sure where your getting your info from but WN has excellent pass agreements with most airlines worldwide, including AR. WN's agreement is called the "Tango" fare and is $150 r/t out of either NYC or MIA.

Either way fares are so cheap within Argentina that there is no real need to travel under ID90 agreements.
Plus there is the benefit of traveling on a confirmed fare!!

Not where I need it. I can fly CO from IAH to EZE in Business. I need AR from EZE to the little town in Patagonia where I want to visit.

I can get to EZE for free, what about after you are there? Is your agreement good in-country?

I don't really care how much it costs you as I wasn't trying to get into a pissing match over who has the better pass agreements. I was only trying to clarify something that was in your original question...
