Unusually High Number Of Diverts To DEN Jan 2

There was an unusually high number of flights diverted to Denver Int'l today. I can't find anything useful on the individual airline's websites regarding the reasons. Can anyone tell me why these flights were diverted to Denver? No guesses, I'd like to know the actual reason! I like to keep detailed notes after a full day's worth of photography...

Air Canada A319, YUL-LAX (AC0797)
American Airlines 757, HDN-ORD (AA2318)
Delta Airlines 757, EGE-ATL (DL1295)
Midwest M80, MCI-SFO (YX918)
Northwest Airlines 757, EGE-MSP (NW1654)

I'm only speculating, but my guess is that the flts out of HDN and EGE were unable to carry enough fuel along with a full psgr load out of there origin stations and had to stop in DEN for fuel...no idea about the others...

I also heard Southwest had a flight from BNA to OAK that diverted to DEN as well. It was a busy day at DIA...
Frontier Airlines, A Whole Different Animal. Maybe some day to Hawaii???

I believe that was on Dec 31. Two Southwest 73G's, one from PHX the other from DAL, arrived today to start revenue service tomorrow.

Northwest flight was diverted to denver to get more fuel due to enroute weather.

N228WN arrived from DAL a little bit before 11:00am. I think that's the one with all of the Southwest big-wigs on it. N223WN arrived from PHX around 3:15pm. It came in just a minute or two before the LH A346 Star Alliance.  Smile I guess N223WN will operate the first flight in the morning. I was guessing that Southwest would have brought in a theme plane for the first day of flights. I would have liked to see the Slam Dunk c/s again...

Ah, I hadn't seen those yet. Nice!

Back to topic, so we have NW being a fuel divert. That seems strange, but sometimes things don't go as planned I guess. What about the others?

Don't forget the severe storms across the country yesterday... leading to higher fuel requirements for reroutes and holds... and some airfields (inc. ORD) being closed for periods of time.

Weather is the culprit. The west coast has been slammed by heavy rains, especially northern CA. Southern CA got it yesterday. We had a lot of flow issues here in LAS because of weather in CA and eventually here in LAS. Severe storms rolled through Chicago and Atlanta yesterday as well.
