Qantas 747-400 Interior

In this picture, the seats are arranged 2-4-2.

In a normal 747-400, it's 3-4-3. Does Qantas do this to make you more comfortable? Are the seats arranged like this on all Qantas 744's?

No i dont think that is to make it more comfy.
As far as i know, all 747 has 2-4-2 config on the last 5-8 rows. This is because the body is a little more narow in the back and a 3-4-3 config woud therefore be impossible in the back of an 747. In the rest of the QF 744 i think the seats are 3-4-3 in economy, just like all other airlines.

TG, your absolutely right....your standard 747 will have a 3-4-3 config up until the fuselage of the aircraft starts to taper back (or non-constant section), then you must go to a 2-4-2 configuration to satisfy certification requirements such as the mandatory 20" aisle regulation!

if you go to on a QF 747-400 ... what a flight!
just don't get row 74 aisle seat ... people hanging on your seat as they wait for the lav. really annoying esp. on the 14hour LAX-SYD flight.

oh yeah ... it is 2-4-2 near the end of the aircraft

The two seat section of a 747 is the best, because the cabin gets wider and wider so there is space on the outside of the seat in the gap. The aisles remain straight and there is progressively more space between the outside seat and wall, until the cabin fully widens out and a third seat can fit into the section. I know that sound incoherent but it is a difficult concept to explain. Basically the forwardmost row of 2-4-2 has nearly a full seat width of space next to it for handluggage and stretching out. I always try and get that seat. (PS Qantas economy class is crap, hasn't changed since the late 80s - "I want my PTV...".)

Thats not quite true Cedarjet. The 744s have been refitted with the new seats as seen in the pic above. PTV's are on the way.
