Pan Am: SFB-ATL... Will It Fly?

Wed Jan 04, 2006 2:53 am

So a while back ago Pan Am (the newest version) announced planned service on the 727 from SFB-FLL but about a month before it was suppose to start, the route was pulled. I was about to book a flight on it for a day trip to get on my first 727 ever and then it was gone from the reservation area. Now they have ATL on their route map with service to commence Feb 10, I believe. I'm not sure if I feel confident enough to book this flight in Mid Feb due to Pan Am's track record. I'm afraid if I book it, it'll be cancelled before I can fly on them and then I may risk getting my $187 back. What do you all think? I'd really like to fly on a 727 soon since so many are out of service now.

Hey,

If you book with Visa, then if anything terrible were to happen like your flight gets cancelled or the airline goes bust etc.

Then you will get your money back from the Visa Card company.

Thanks
Mike

Justin,

I guess we'll both be finding out.....can't pass up a ride on a 727 (especially with the meatball on the tail). Big grin

Hey Rich. These flight times work well for you because the ATL-SFB flight departs in the morning and the SFB-ATL flight departs in the late evening, giving you the most of the traveling days in Orlando. For me it's gonna suck because I'm going to fly up in the late evening and have to turn around again in 12 hours and fly home in the morning. Not shooting in ATL  Sad

I thought the old Continental logo was called the "meatball".

If you get the chance, fly on First Air of Canada. They have 727-100C's up there. I believe they still have a couple of 727-200's as well. But they don't fly to anywhere very popular, unfortunately.

The Pan Am blue ball or "meatball" as it was called came along far ahead of CO's logo.

Rich,
You better have a backup plan just in case.

I mean if it's just for a fun trip, book it and see what happens. If you put it on your credit card you are guaranteed to get your money back.

I wouldn't count them if I HAD to be somewhere for work or a wedding, etc, etc.

I would book on it early, because with their track record, they wiill be gone in about 2 months from ATL. I'm sorry, but to me Pan-Am (version 3.0) has screwed several a community with their service (or lack thereof) and then leaving with little or no notice. I do like the 72's though!!!

Hmmm.....that does kinda suck. These flights obviously aren't designed for locals in the Sanford area. Maybe they'll add flights.......think that'll happen? lol

Ed,

Yep, always have AirTran as the backup. Big grin

First Air is down to 1 sole 727-100 and they only ever had 1 pax 727-200 to begin with. The last 721 will be gone by the end of February  Sad but the 722 will be sticking around for a couple more years, but will largely be used for charter services only.

I hope this works.
I live MUCH closer to SFB than to MCO and have to fly to ATL about 2x a quarter.

I wonder if they have paid SFB what they owed them for fuel. I think the airport is still holding a 727 as collateral on the Starport Ramp.

Guys the reason for the ATL-SFB stuff is because they won the vacation express contract. They will be flying for the old TMA. Thats all.

Same result as far as most of us are concerned.

Are they flying the rest of the Vacation Express routes as well? They would need another 5-6 planes operating if that's the case....
