speaking of rare birds showing up at ORD, think we'll see a 773 show up there anytime soon? No pics show up in the database

Not likely. The only airline that operates 773's and flies to ORD is Korean. They typically fly 772's there. Haven't seen a 773 here yet.

As for the DC-10, given the flight number it's a charter. Military maybe?

Gabe, seen it here once subbing for a 772.

The DC10 operated out ORD-AMS as NWA9900 - it was subbing for KLM - I think it was in place of yesterday's KLM flight. Its a one-way operation only - don't know what happened to KLM pax westbound - maybe they were put on flights through MSP/DTW/MEM, etc.

Any idea when the DC-10 is departing ORD? Are they going to use it for regular passenger service back to MSP or DTW? I wouldn't mind paying a walk up fare just to get to ride it if its going somewhere regional.

They were on KL611. Return flight KL612 is delayed by 48hrs, so that might be the reason for KL to charter a NW DC10 so the pax have a delay of "only" 29 hrs.

The KL plane has technical problems and still in ORD.

Thanks for the info guys. Yeah, I had figured weather delays as its been pretty grim around here lately. Any details on the specific problems?

JAL, Air France and ANA operate 773s and fly to ORD, although I can't comment whether or not they will operate their 773s into ORD in the future.

I was talking to a ramper who works at ORD on AIM and he said that the DC-10 was there to take tuesday's KL612's passengers to AMS.

On tuesday, PH-BFV was struck by lightning not once but twice. so it got towed to maintenence while the passengers got put up in a hotel. yesterday, KL operated its 74M into ORD and NW's DC-10 came in.

I don't think ORD (or really very many North American airports) will be seeing a 773 anytime soon. Boeing pretty much designed and marketed the plain for the high-density Asian market. No US carrier flies 773's and they aren't made for the trans-pacific hop. So I think to see a 773 you'll need to go to NRT/HKG/SIN/ETC

You are correct sir. The only one I could think of off the top of my head was Korean. However I don't expect any of those carriers to bring a 773 in here anytime soon.

if you find the DC-10 that special, Northwest (the antique fleet airline) flies a DC-10 from MSP to AMS and back everyday. I'm sure Northwest will replace it with one of their A333 soon, like they did with detroit. I was flying from LAX to MSP last week, and got there early, and just missed catching an earlier flight from LAX to MSP going on to FTL on a DC-10, and had to settle for riding my scheduled 752. I'd love to catch a 773 in the states, much less riding it somewhere. 346's fly into LAX routinely on Virgin, and South African flies them into ATL.

My uncle works in ops at IAD, gave me a tour on Christmas. Saw my first 773 which was an AF, wish I could have gone in it. Got some pics of it and others while there but I don't know if they're Airliners.net worthy. Just wish ORD would get some 773s and 346s so I can drive up and start snapping away one day.
