presumably EK now needs more gates than the current terminal provides (hence one of the reasons for the construction going on at the airport).
They need much more - a rumour I heard is that they may end up using DXB
mostly for EK
and JXB (or whatever code they have for Jebal Ali) for other airlines, by charging extortionate landing fees etc for DXB
. Just to repeat, this is an unsubstantiated rumour but seems like a good idea and one that wouldn't be all that different than what goes on there now (how EK
have priority on gates). But yes, not an unusual sight at DXB
at the moment to see this many a/c parked up elsewhere.

Do you like its terminal or do you think it's too over-the-top?
Personally I think its one of the nicer airports - spacious, comfortable, good food outlets.... and should be even better when the other side is finished. Plus, walking one end to the other is a nice bit of exercise before an EK412 or other such long haul. Also the idea to put a hotel in the transit area... Marvelous!!

I can't remember the last time I had to take a bus to catch a flight at DXB but I know it still goes on.
Quite strangely I had to take a bus probably about 6 months ago in DXB
to board the a/c, during the Lions tour of NZ
. Strange because (a) it was EK
and (b) it was the A345 - thought they would have gotten priority. But yes I hear the buses are getting used regularly again.
BTW... Anyone able to explain what exactly terminal 2 at DXB
is for? I see that Sri Lankan now operates out of there.
