What's Your Favorite Plane To Spot?

Sat May 27, 2000 12:56 pm

I guess mine would have to be the 747. A lot of people this site must like photographing the 747, considering that 1 of every 6.9 photos on this website is a 747. Anyway, I guess that's why they say the 747 is the most well-known airplane in the world. What's your favorite plane to spot?

first thing ...
the most well known airplane thing came from the fact that is the only commercial airliner that has the double deck (that ends... i know if i just put double deck, some A3XX lover will come along, anyways). plus it is the main airplane depicted in movies. MI2, AirForceOne, Airplane etc. name a terrorist movie-- DieHard2. ok ...

back to the spotting ... i like anything with 2+ jet engines, 2 wings, a tail section and is painted anything non-military ... that just about covers all commercial aviation except for props

Peace

It depends: every A330/A340, MD11 or B747 or any widebody in a special livery or any special visitor at ZRH.

I remember, that I needed four weeks to get finally the A332 of Monarch (bad weather, delay, ...), but it was worth waiting for it!

I don't really think the aircraft matters to me, but rather the airline. When I landed in Beijing a month ago, I was in awe, because I was only used to seeing European and US airlines with mostly smaller planes, but in China, I saw all of tehse new airlines (some I have never heard of) and huge aircraft, 777, 767, 747.

PS
I also, like any commercial aviation lover, love seeing special paint schemes, even if they are as ugly as hell.

747-400, all airlines. That stretched upper deck makes it look as if the top deck was meant to be. It's a lovely aircraft in all aspects with winglets and a surface area so big for special paint schemes.

If you guys like 747-400s, why don't you have a trip to Hong Kong and stay there for one afternoon. You're gonna be crazy -- a big pile of airlines fly 747-400s and its freighter constituent to Hong Kong, including AF, BA, JL, CX, 5Y, AN, QF, TG, PR, NH, CA, CI, CP, UA, LH, KL, ... .... wow!

747, 727, anything unusual (111, Caravelle, Ruskies, that kind of thing). Concordes always look great and make a big noise which is cool. But like someone said above, if it has wings and a tail and jets and isn't military, then I'm into it.

1. the 747

and far behind

2. every plane with more than two engines and everything rare (type or airline)

and far behind

3. all two-engined planes (okay, the 777 is not bad). Boring 737 or A320s only when in an exotic paintscheme. Only one in 50 pictures I shoot is a commuter-plane.

My Favorite Plane To Spot: A340

It's definitely the A340. While I was in Toronto, I had this right outside my room overlooking Pearson International. Most beautiful aircraft I have ever seen.

The 747, without question! This goes for all variants, though I like the -400 and -300 the best, because of the winglets(the -400, of course) and the stretched upper decks.

The MD-11, A340, A330 and the 777 are not far behind. Also any plane with outstanding or rare color schemes.

Pick a plane, any plane- I get a kick just going to the airport and watching them come and go. I really couldn't care less what types they are.

Mine would be any variant of the Boeing 767. I love the way the wheels out back perch forward after rotation and upon retraction for landing. It makes it look really neat. Also, I love how the 767s use so little distance for takeoffs. Sometimes a domestic 1-2 hr flight uses so little takeoff distance, it really soars high into the sky.
