FRANKFURT (AFX) - Bayerische Motoren Werke AG is to design unspecified parts of Airbus's new wide-bodied A350 aircraft, Handelsblatt newspaper said in a report to be published tomorrow, citing a company spokesman.

iDrive in the cockpit and for PTVs.
Heated seats in C and F.
"Bangle butt" on aircraft tail.

Hmmm, iDrive in the 350 cockpit. I guess that would give Airbus pilots something to do at last, like spending 12-14 hours reading through a 12 lb. manual to figure out how to turn the thing on. I always find it strange when great companies come out with really stupid stuff (like GM from 1968 onward).

If it ever left the gate...

I hope there won't be too much drag on the A350's grille.

Maybe some kidney shaped intakes on the engines or kidney shaped windows!

As for i-drive, if they incorporate that into the IFE the safety demo will need to be followed by a 20 minute demo for women PAX  Wink My girlfriend still does not know how to use it properly in my car. Mind you I don't know how to properly use the oven at her place so...

So is this an admission by Daimler that BMW makes more comfortable cars?

Or is this a plot by Daimler keep BMW interior designers busy while they strike their blow in the car market?  scratchchin

The A350 will probably handle really well on the taxiways, but the maintenance costs will be horrendous.  Smile

Right, they could advertise the plane this way:

"The new A350 - The fastest experience from gate to runway! The Ultimate Flying Machine. (TM)"  yes

Great seats, but don't expect to find a place to put down your coffee cup! Flying is serious business, you see...  Smile

The Spiegel says that it would be on interiors mostly.

http://www.spiegel.de/wirtschaft/0,1518,393721,00.html

(In German)

Quote:

Die BMW-Designer arbeiten der Zeitung zufolge an der Gestaltung einer Flugzeug-Kabine, die neue Maßstäbe im Passagierverkehr setzen und Fluggästen ab 2010 deutlich mehr Komfort bieten solle.

Rough translation:
According to the newspaper, the BMW designers will be working on the creation of an aircraft cabin, which will set new standards and offer passengers more comfort from 2010.

So more PR spin on how great things will be. But as with everything, seeing is believing!

I guess BMW wants to get back to their roots. They originally got their start making airplane engines.

Hence the "Motoren" in the BMW!
For a short while they were co-producing engines with RR (BR700) but were bought out by RR IIRC.
