First 747 Murdered - Schipol Airport

Sat Jan 07, 2006 8:29 am

A 747 was murdered at Schipol airport in Amsterdam in this police photo. This is the chalk outline. Since this was the first 747 to be murdered, it drew a lot of investigators to the scene. Perhaps too many.

So, are there any murder suspects yet?
Don't expect to see me around that much (if at all) -- the contact link should still work, though.

I don't get that photo, what is KLM trying to show? That the 747 can "hold" a lot of cars in its "footprint"?
Is it weird I have a RemoveBeforeFlight pitot cover on my car rear view mirror?

Actually it is a screenshot from a new weekly TV show about aircraft mysteries.

It will be called "Alfred Boeing Presents"

actually yes hehe, in that time it was still very special a 747... would be the same as us waiting for a 1200 pax plane.. but this way they wanted to show how big it actually was, to give people an idea of what was comming

Yeah that picture looks pretty old, so do the cars, so was this taken when the 747 was just entering service?

Pretty cool photo and concept! Nice way to introduce a new aircraft to people. Ohhh those Dutch... always a step ahead of everyone! Very creative.

Now can someone explain this KLM choice to me... those of you who are familiar with KLM or fly KLM as frequently as I do must have heard the song "I believe I can fly" played over the PA system inside the aircraft as passengers are boarding... and I have always wondered. Do I want my airline company to "believe" they can fly or do I really want them to be 110% confident that they do know how to fly. Now what PR dept person decided to play this song at a start of a flight over the PA system?  Wink

Probably the same person who once worked at KLM's marketing department and decided to use this song in one of KLM's commercials

They also tend to play "One day I'll fly away" by Randi Crawford (also used in a KLM commercial and title used in many KLM ads) and from time to time I heard Elton John's "Nikita" when supervising boarding in AUA.

Any of those tracks mentioned is far better than playing Tom Petty-Free Falling IMO

And agreed, 747 will always have a place in my heart, but A380 ain´t bad either  Wink

Sounds like an appropriate song when heavy delays or strikes are expected.

When you hear "I believe I can fly" on the PA, you're urged to ask the captain for his or her license or call the nearest mental hospital to ask if one of their patients did not return from his leave for the weekend.
