QF Service Between SYD And HNL

Sat Jan 07, 2006 6:01 pm

I will be flying betwHNL-SYD-HNL on QF this spring. What is QF4 from HNL to SYD like? What type of service is offered in Y? How many meals are offered? Are ALL flying 743 aircraft fitted with the new entertainment systems? How about the return; what is it like?

Thanks.

I've never flown that route, but have made a number of flights on QF 743 to and from Japan. To my knowledge they are all equipped with PTVs. For meals, I'm sure the QF website will tell you what meals are served on your particular legs. QF's service isn't to everyone's taste - fans of CX and SQ say QF is a bit casual and chatty - but that's the Australian way and their Y service generally beats anything a US carrier could manage in C.

As of now, QF operates B763s on Saturday and Sundays while two of the B743s are being used for the Hajj pilgrimages. The B743 is still being used on weekdays.

QF will probably replace the B763s with the B743s on QF4/QF4 (Sat/Sun) when the Hajj season ends.

If you have never flown that route, it would be very difficult to believe your second quoted statement. To say that Qantas's Coach service is superior to the Business Class offerings of American carriers is absolutely absurd. You need to get out more often.

No offence HAFA but a friend of mine recently flew SYD HNL with you folks in C class. She said you were great but the QF C product - and let me tell you, I am no QF fan - was vastly superior. But she did add the HA fare was 3k cheaper than QF.

BTW....HA is getting rave reviews down here. I have loads of friends who have flown with you and nothing but praise. Well done!

767ER,

No offense taken! I would probably agree with you that the QF C class "product" IS vastly superior to HA's C class on the SYD-HNL route. HA's C class seat is VASTLY inferior to QF's C class seat. When I travel long distances, I want a comfortable seat that reclines fully with lot's of legroom, and unfortunately, the C class seats on HA do not have this luxury and that is why our tickets in C class on this route are 3 times cheaper. Having said that, I have flown QF Business class on this route and as far as food, service, and flight attendant friendliness goes, I think HA has QF beat.
The person I had responded to though was stating that he thinks QF COACH class is better than American carriers' Business class which I said is absurd and I still stand by that statement. I will take ANYONE'S Business Class seat over ANYONE'S coach class seat any day, and this wasn't meant to be a diss at QF. I think they are a fine airline.
Finally, thanks for the good words regarding HA! We must be doing something right, our flights have been packed since September!

Aloha,

The only gripe I have with HA is their seat pitch in coach. But that's just me. Otherwise, I think HA has a great product. I'm glad they managed to get out of bankruptcy.

Does anyone know if they are putting the new skybeds in the 743's for C/J class?

HAFA

Yes I think that statement that QFs Y service is superior to that of C class of any US carrier quite unbelievable. C class yes but not Y.QFs in flight service on the US routes can be patchy indeed. Very inconsistent.

The only reason i would not fly HA is that you are not aligned with either Star or Oneworld. Since I am a FF hog that really counts for something.

Cheers
