Will KLM Use More 777 To South America?

Sat Jan 07, 2006 6:41 pm

I think that so far the only route KLM uses 777s are for GRU....for the rest they use the MD 11 which stops over the antilles....

Is there a chance that KLM will use the T7 very soon to UIO, GYE, LIM... ? I think these also have enough range to avoid the stop over at Bonaire

Regards

BM

P.S I am considering going to Peru and Bolivia next October to travel and KLM seem to have the best fares...and guess what ? According to amadeus its the MD11 that serves AMS-LIM which means I'll still have to wait to first fly the T7...plus KLMs MD 11's don't have PTVs which T7's do...shame!

Wasn't there any talks at KL to send the 777s to LIM a few months ago? I recall reading here in this forum about that.

The other question is whether the 777s would be weight restricted for flights out of UIO because of the high altitude. GYE could be done nonstop both ways as it's near sea level, but for flights to UIO, I guess the high altitude, combined with possible weight restrictions and the distance might force KL to continue the stopover in the Antilles on the eastbound back to AMS.

I've heard about that too but go no news about it ever since. That would be a great news indeed .

and if they tried AMS-UIO-GYE would that work better or not ?

It could work.  Smile As I said, GYE is near sea level, so a nonstop out of GYE eastbound back to AMS is very well possible.

considering KL will receive 9 more 777's, it almost certain you will see them more in South america. CUR , LIM, AUA are already on the list, although non of them is certain yet

i suggest that the ones they didn't recieve during a year were options later converted right?

Really hope the 777 will make it to Lima in October

IB operates an A340 to UIO so that prob means that a 777 could do it too. They operate the lights UIO-GYE-MAD to sort the weight restrictions though

According to my notes, 4 will be leased from ILFC, 5 were directly ordered at Boeing, 2 in December 2004 and 3 last December. Whether they were converted options, I do not know.

I really don't see why one would be in a hurry to get onto a KL T7. Apart from the IFE, the MD11 is by far the superior aircraft. As a matter of fact, rows 1 and 2 in the MD11 are easily KLM's best choice for WBC in the entire fleet. WBC seats in the T7 are of inferior quality.
