Delta Schedule Changes

Mon Jan 09, 2006 2:18 am

I booked a flight back in September for the end of April 2006 on Delta EWR-PHX via ATL. Delta had a schedule change and instead of having a 1 hour layover, it's a 3 1/2 hours layover. This is kind of long and chews into my trip since I was booked in the morning, I called DL reservations several times and always get someone in India who apologizes and says there is no other better connections since they are all 3 to 4 hour laysovers between EWR-PHX.
The later flight from EWR - ATL misconnects the ATL - PHX flights.
Does anyone know if this is the final schedule change between now and the end of April? seems like Delta is spreading out their flights with much longer connections which means more paxs in already crowded terminals.

Go to the airport to do the rebooking since they're sending you to India continuously...just find a schedule that works best for you and have them do the change if it's drastic.

Agreed. I'm sure there is a better connection than that which still has seats(unless its already booking up with Spring Breakers). Just go to the airport, tell them what happened and it doesn't work. They will find something else for you. You don't even have to wait in line, just go to the Delta Direct phone banks. They will connect you with a special reservations specialist which will do what is needed, and then bump you to the front of the line to pick up your new schedule and be on your way.

That's the easiest thing to do. Happened to me in CVG a month ago, called DD and was on my way an hour earlier.

DL is usually very accomodating... One time DL changed the skeds and cancelled the last ATL-ALB flight my mother was booked on. They booked her on an earlier flight but that gave her only 15 mins to clear customs and get to A (She was coming in from MEX). Called Delta for her and while they left a message on the voicemail (in New York), she was in Mexico at the time and never got it. DL put her up in a hotel for the night and booked her first thing in the AM. ..
Some see lines, others see between the lines.

Go to the the airport?

That's a sad commentary on the state of the airline's telephone booking service in this communciation age.

Should he not be able to do it on the phone? Isn't that the point of it all

Then again, if all else failed, we used to use travel agents - and usually, they got it done.  Smile

cheers

Well if I have to wait 3 1/2 hours (10:30am to 2:00pm) is this enough time to jump on the MARTA and go to the Underground for lunch and then return for the flight with security and transit times?

You'd have about an hour downtown.. if you're in at 10:30, that means you'll be to the MARTA station around 10:45. You may have to wait 5-10 minutes for a train, so you can expect to be downtown around 11:15. In the early afternoon, you want to give yourself about an hour to go through security and get to the gate, so you should be back on a train to the airport no later than 12:30.

Just MHO...
Ask why..

WDBRR-There are a couple of better connections via Cincinnati...I'd take a look at those...if nothing else, you could hop on a later flight out of Newark...

The only decent connections for this date is 3:09pm dep from EWR through CVG or 3:50pm dep from EWR through ATL, both get in between 8 and 9pm.
I was originally getting in around 12:46pm.

Don't ever surrender yourself to the new schedule the aireiln picks for you. Always arm yourself with the flight you want. Then call Delta and TELL them to change you to the flights you chose. Do you want more time in ATL? Get an earlier flight out of EWR. DL had a sched. change, so they should now accomodate whatever you want (within reason), including a full refund. But, again, never call reservations without knowing the flights you want!

OK...it's fairly obvious it's on a Saturday, because your original flight was only pulled for Saturdays...here's the quickest itinerary:

Delta 2192 (CO3043) EWR-CVG, 9:25 AM-11:45 AM
Delta 803 CVG-SLC, 12:30 PM-2:19 PM
Delta 1655 SLC-PHX, 2:51 PM-3:25 PM

okay...well how about me...I was booked to go FLL-NAS but they no longer have that flight and now I have to go FLL-MCO-NAS

I am coming originally from MCI and its kind of a bother to go back north to MCO. Can I ask Delta to book me on another airline- or more importantly will they do that?

Does that leg of the trip originate in MCI or FLL? If it originates in MCI, why not just have them rebook you MCI-ATL-NAS or MCI-MCO-NAS?

Recommendation ... I find that a travel agent can get these things fixed ... and they happen a good bit these days. They usually call me to advise 'the problem' and that it's been resolved. They seem to take greater interest in my business. I don't waste my time dealing with 'India'...

Don't even get me started on India! The CSRs have no idea what the route structures are like or where cities are on the map! They give you ridiculous connections/times/routing.

There are certain times when the internet is not doing it for you and you need to speak to an actual human. I remember calling an airline, or any business for that matter, and getting real help from an actual company representative.

Outsourcing this type of customer service does not make good business sense. Period.

He pal, can you leave from LGA ? They got a 5:30 am departure into CVG getting you into PHX at 9:46 am. They'll let you change airports if you, the flyer, can do it.

In fairness to the Indians, American reps aren't always better. I trained and managed agents for a major car rental reservation call center, and one of my FIRST tasks was to always educate them on geography. And it was a continuing struggle throughout their employments.

The big difference I noticed between the American agents and Indian agents was the Indians knew their handicap and had a definite desire to learn. The Americans could have given a rat's patoot where the cities were and the differences between airline city codes, etc.

As a travel agent I can tell you that you can get a better conx time. There are load of them in our systems. Go to your travel agent and have them check out what flights work for you. But, I must warn you, your times and flight may change several times between now and your departure date. And if you find one that works for you know, remember that one can also change. We live in a world were the flying public is at the airlines rules and schedules.

Good luck with that one. DL and NW are the worst airlines to get anything changed.

I know the "world is flat" according to Tom Freidmann-but I've had to deal with Hindi speaking reservations people for Delta-They can't speak "American" English as well as Americans and have a tight script. They are like the Capital One creditor card ad people all they can says is "NO". It's like when I get a collection call about a client form India-which I know means the creditor isn't serious about collecting-using people of shore who don't communicate means that Delta doesn't care about its passengers.

Look all I'm saying is either stay with these conx times or see if you can get better ones. But, just remember that your new flights and times my change again. I have a client right now that has booked a non-stop flight from DTW to TPA and the airline has changed the flight times 4 times already and my client is not departing until Feb 22 of this year.....Good luck and have a nice flight and time in PHX when you go.

I know what you mean..... I run into that everyday calling different tour companys for my clients. You call them sit on hold for 30 minutes and then get some who can speak english. Ticks me off everytime. Because when that happens I have to call back again (and hope for some that can speak english) and double check my reservations are correct. We live in the day of finding CHEEP help......

The inten. originates in FLL...my questions is whether I can ask DL to put me on another airline that does FLL-NAS? or more importantly will they do it? and at their cost or mine? (its not my fault they change their schedule)

One more question: What happens if they cancell MCO-NAS and do not restart FLL-NAS...??? What are my options? Are they going to send me FLL-ATL-NAS???

I dont know if they will put you on another carrier, but they might since they discontinued the service. If they cancel the MCO-NAS, they will probably send you to Nassau on Bahamasair or probably send you from FLL which would make more sense. Just my thoughts.
