Tue Jan 10, 2006 11:15 am

As some of you would be aware Westjet kept their 732s for a little longer than anticipated due to the collapse of Jestgo. Finally the last 732 has flown it's last service for the airline and they have announced their expected deliveries of 736 & 73Gs for 2006

This is in addition to their recent order for 4 futher 737NGs and the Exercise of 3 Purchase Rights.

10 B736's!...........Hmmmmm, I would suspect there will be some new domestic routes announced for the summer schedule. Also seems as if they think AC has a good idea with 'rightsizing' the aircraft for each route  Wink

Yeah...I kinda wish an airline in the US would purchase some 736's. But I don't think it's too likely.

Why didn't SAS try to sell their 736s to Westjet if they seem to love them (unlike SAS)? They can use the revenues to develop their single aisle fleet to either A-320 or bigger 73ng models so they wish.
nobody has ever died from hard work, but why take the risk?

I'm a little surprised that WS doesn't have any 738's in the line. Did they take delivery of all the 738's they ordered?

AFAIK, Westjet has all 5 738's they had in the plans. I haven't been able to find anything about current orders/options for more 738's.

Does anyone know where all of WJ's 737-200's are going? I believe some have been donated to flight schools and about 10 were sold to a company in Florida. Are there any more that haven't been spoken for?

WN could possibly order some to replace the 735s eventually.

The 737-500's will probably last long enough to see the 737's successor. Then it will be replaced by the successor aircraft.

Here's full breakdown of WJ's fleet and fleet plans:

Current fleet: 51 NG's (43 73G, 3 736, 5 738)
To be added 2006: 12 NG's (2 73G, 10 736)
2006 Year end fleet: 63 NG (45 73G, 13 736, 5 738)

on order for 2007 delivery: 4 73G
on order for 2008 delivery: 3 73G
NEW order recently placed: 4 new NG type/delivery date to be determined

Correct. WJ has no plans for addl 738 aircraft now. These 5 aircraft are used on a wide variety of routes and can be seen at many WJ cities.

The 3 736's are used primarily on Western Canada routes, although the one-daily YYZ-LAS and YYZ-YLW routes are 736 routes. As the fleet grows to 13 this year, they will probably spread to all WJ cities.
I dumped at the gybe mark in strong winds when I looked up at a Porter Q400 on finals. Can't stop spotting.

Just to add, with that order, 3 Purchase Rights were also exercised into options for the same delivery period.

Yyz717 Thank you for an excellent post, exactly the sort of input which makes this site so good for someone a long way from the "local" market. Very much appreciated.

You're welcome!  Smile

Incidently, 2 of the 10 736's to be delivered this year, will arrive this month.
