A good achievement for U2. Do you know if their yields increased?

As a comparison, Ryanair carried 33,368,585 from 31st Dec. 2004 until 31st Dec. 2005.

“December passenger numbers were in line with our expectations. Unit revenue for the month (total revenue per seat flown) showed a year on year improvement, supported by strong ancillary contributions.”

Good news for squeezy.

Managed to maintain their load factor at 80% also... (but that means that they flew with 7.5m seats empty in 2005) - imagine the profit increase if they could maintain yield, and fill an extra 2 seats a flight.... the marginal cost of those extra seats is tiny!

Does that include passengers on a free ride?

Whether they pay nothing or £1 million is irrelevant - they are still passengers. Moreover, everyone pays tax and charges - so there is effectively no-one who gets a "free ride," by which I mean they pay nothing, zero, zilch. Anyway, Ryanair's website states that it "Represents the number of earned seats flown by Ryanair."

Come on, let's not shift away from U2 and its good achievement.  Smile But, yes, it can be irritating - but hey.

Dont forget that the FR and EZY stats are not flown passengers, but revenue passengers. (including the usual 5% of noshows)

I disagree. Any airline can increase their amount of passengers carried by giving away seats for free. Let's face it, if they wouldn't be able to increase their passenger load with giving away free tickets, that'd be worrysome. If you can actually manage to get an increase of passengers (with such an inferior product) by letting those passengers pay for their seats (and not just taxes), that would be more of a class act.

Anyone has an idea how many seats Ryanair gives away for free each year, and how many at extreme low prices (let's use 5 pounds as a maximum).

Very good results from easyJet! They have started a lot of new routes but still can (more or less) keep load factors and yields. They do excellent work.

I am currently booked on 10 easyJet flights until May (more to follow), so I will break the 4 mio. mark probably by myself.  Wink

Easyjet is one of my favourite LCC's. They do a great job and they get better all the time.

Their prices have become more realistic over the past 12 months. They can only get bigger.
and with that..cabin crew, seats for landing please.

The easyJet figures include retained passengers, I wonder what the new passenger figures would be for both U2 and FR.
