Thu Jan 12, 2006 1:54 am

Reported in BBC News Online:

Flight: BA8703
Aircraft: BAe Avro RJ 100
Route: EDI - LCY
On Board: 86 (not sure pax/crew)

"Passengers on board a flight from Edinburgh to London City Airport had to make an emergency exit following a suspected engine fire. One passenger reported seeing flames shooting out of an engine on the aircraft as it prepared for take-off on Wednesday morning.

The 0800 GMT CitiExpress flight to London had been taxiing to the main runway at Edinburgh for take off when the emergency happened.

Businessman Alasdair Morton said there was a power failure in the middle of the pre-flight safety briefing.

"As it came back on the second time I noticed some flames coming from the right hand engine," he said.

Well, He said this "When we got down the chute there was no-one there to take us further away from the plane.
I suppose that was a bit of a risk, lots of passengers within 20m of a plane which had a report of engine on fire."
What was he expecting ?, the plane had only just stopped. The cabin crew stay on to make sure everyone gets off, and the pilots were probably in the flightdeck shutting everything down.

Well, there have been a few problems with BA and engines, but it's either bad maintenance, or bad luck, I hope it's the later.

P.S-Before you flame me, I wasn't saying that bad maintenance was the cause.
Always stand up for what is right, even if it means standing alone..
