This thread is to view opinions on wheter the 787 and A350 articles contain an appropriate listing for potential 787 and A350 customers.

  • Aerolineas Argentinas
  • Aeromexico
  • American Airlines
  • Avianca
  • Britannia Airways
  • British Airways
  • Delta Air Lines
  • EL AL
  • Etihad Airways
  • GECAS
  • Gulf Air
  • Jet Airways
  • LAN
  • Lufthansa
  • Oman Air
  • RBS Aviation
  • Saudi Arabian Airlines
  • Thai Airways
  • Turkish Airlines
  • United Airlines
  • Yemenia Airlines

And for the A350:

  • Aeroflot
  • Air France
  • British Airways
  • Cathay Pacific

Any thoughts on these lists? Any additions or removals reccomended?

I don't really expect Lufthansa to seriously consider the B787 over the A350. To me, it seems that this is clearly an airline that will look to Airbus for its future aircraft fleet replacement needs.

Even if you are correct I think Lufthansa still is a potential customer for the 787 as well. In fact I think if the 2 lists are stating potential customers as opposed to probable customers they should be almost identical.

My understanding of English might be wrong, though.

I think Aeroflot is firmly in the 787 camp given recent new reports.

United isn't going to order A350s. The sooner people accept that, the easier it will be for them to deal with it.  Wink

I would generally agree with that except for airlines that are looking for a one-for-one B767 or A300 replacement. The A350 is much larger than those aircraft.

Where is Emirates on these lists??? Don't know how accurate wikipedia is in general, but this indicates only 3 airlines are looking ONLY at the A350(AF,CX,PR); SU, EY, GF, UA, BA looking at both and the rest are looking at 787 only. Personally, I would have thought AF and CX would also look at the 787 and many of the 787 only listed airlines( Jet, LAN, Thai, Turkish etc) would also be potential A350 customers.

I don't think it's appropriate for an encyclopedia, even a free encyclopedia that anyone can edit, to be speculating about a subject.

SQ is missing. That's probably the next biggest order.

no EK, no KL, so dont know how they ever could get this list together...

Aerolinas also on the list.. i never heard them talking about the 787... beside i see it more as a potential A350 customer.

KL not on the list, well they said earlier that the MD-11 desision won't be made before 2008, but last year they stated that slots for both 787 and A350 were selling like hot cakes, and since they think the A330 will be to small, i see them ordering the 787/A350 sooner than origially planned

I would think that OS is a potential 787 operator as well.

I looked it up on Wikipedia.com and searched for 787 and found the list. The information looked quite valid to me and a prelude to the list stated that SQ and EK have shown interest, so you can add them as well. Also mentioned follow-on orders are likely from NZ, CO and NW. NZ has already ordered 2 more, CO is scratching around to get announced 10 firmly ordered(now stands at 7) and I don't know the likelihood of NW ordering more while in C11(although they do have 50 787 options).

wikipedia is edited by whoever wants to submit info. for new topics like this, it is not a trusted source.

the lists should be identical. any airline considering one should also be considering the other. only AA may be taken off the 350 list. that's about it.

On that 787 list, there are some airlines who are not likely to order the A350. Those I would say who are NOT likely to order the A350 are Aeromexico, American, Avianca, Britannia, Delta, EL AL, and Saudi Arabian.

Aerolineas Argentinas

I don't see them having the cash to afford new aircraft or high leases at this moment. Discard it.

Quoting 1337Delta764 (Thread starter):
Aeromexico

Boeing started to offer last November the B787 to AM to get along with it's B777 fleet. AM might surprise us this year with 5 B787-8/9s.

Quoting 1337Delta764 (Thread starter):
Avianca

Sure!! I see them going for 40 B737s and 5-10 B787s sometime soon!!!

Quoting 1337Delta764 (Thread starter):
LAN

Sure, why not!!! B787/777/777Fs for them, perfect B767ER/B767ERF/A343 replacement!!!

If conditions change, then they could order the 787. This list is for the long term, not short term.

I would believe that - even if they begin to show some interest in 2006 and perhaps ask for offers from the manufacturers - BA will not buy anything just yet. 2007/8 would be more likely.

CX has publicly stated that they are looking on both the 787 and the 350 as the next battle for their business. I would also not be surprised to see TG buying the 350 - in fact I wouldn't even be surprised if the got the 787 and the 350! TG must be a strong competitor for the title of the airline with the most different aircrafts in their fleet!

Save for El Al for obvious reasons, most of the airlines mentioned could be on both lists. Any airline would be rather stupid not to play the two manufacturers up against each other in order to get the best deal possible! For that reasons one should not put too much emphasis on "leaks" in the press that this or that product is preferred. It could well be part of a negotiation technique if it is not only some employee or "insider" (the CEO's housemaide or driver?) who - after a few drinks - are feeling rather important leaking more or less self-made rumors or hearsay to a journalist who take each word down on paper with glee as if it was words from a sphinx. I wonder how many sources in the papers classified as "insider knowledge" are in fact from the company driver, cleaning staff in the CEO's office or coffee maker who have enjoyed a few moments of feeling important in the company of a journalist!?

Add Iberia....I make a hug $ bet they'l choose the A350 over the 787...I think they like to support EU oproducts thus go for airbus

Isn't then 787 too little to be an MD 11 replacement ?

Plus the MD 11 is due to remain in service till 2012...many years ahead of it

If a 787-10 is made, then it might be the ideal size.
