MX To Double MIA-MEX Service

Fri Jan 13, 2006 12:54 pm

Mexicana, whose very recent history on the Miami-Mexico City route has been shaky, will once again offer two daily flights between Miami and Mexico City, traditionally the single busiest O&D traffic pair between the US and Mexico (keep in mind that, unlike other markets, like Los Angeles, Miami-Mexico traffic is heavily concentrated to a handful of cities, especially MEX, rather than spread out amongst nearly dozens). Mexicana had traditionally offered 2x daily service through most of the early 00s, reducing it to only 1x daily in late 2003. Then, in the summer of 2005, Mexicana pulled out of the route entirely, in favour of a 4th daily MIA-CUN flight. Then, following the tragic events of Wilma, Mexicana temporarily resumed MIA-MEX service. The temporary resumption became permanent, and, now, in what I assume is an attempt to gain back marketshare, Mexicana will be going to 2x daily on the route, in addition to their 3x daily MIA-CUN service. The new flight is timed perfectly for a business day trip to Mexico City. The schedule effective 3 February 2006:

New flight:
MX 302 MIA 0705-0930 MEX 319 Daily
MX 303 MEX 1850-2240 MIA 319 Daily

Current flight:
MX 300 MIA 1905-2125 MEX 319 Daily
MX 301 MEX 0800-1200 MIA 319 Daily

What a/c does Mexicana usually use on that route? A320's?
