BA LHR-DTW With 763

Sat Jan 14, 2006 10:25 am

Anyone been on BA's LHR-DTW service with the 763? What's it like compared to the 777 service they had recently?

And would you go for the BA over the NW 333 service from LGW if you had the choice? Also, which one is better in terms of entertainment?

NW 333 is vastly superior in terms of entertainment (AVOD, playlists on demand)
The 763 is going to be inferior to the 777, even with new cabins.
If you have the money,t ake the 333 and join NW's FFP (or use the SkyTeam FFP yo have)
What now?

I'd go with the NW, all things being equal.

But I prefer Gatwick over Heathrow in any case for travelling to London, as I find it's quicker and faster to get through.

For the same money, I'd fly NW. But for 50 bucks less I'd fly BA.

Which class of travel?

J on the 767 is the best way to travel Club World after 747 upper deck. Not sure about WT+ or WT though...

WT+ on the 767 is even better than on the 747 and 777 as the layout is 2x2x2. Loads of room and not as busy as the 2x4x2 layout on others. Still though the new A333 of NW should be good with AVOD but what is the service like? BAs entertainment is due to go 'on demand' sometime this year, suspect after they relaunch Club World.

As the BA 767s were the last BA longhaul aircraft to be refurbished, only being done last year, and with BA relaunching Club World with on-demand entertainment this year, I think there's more chance of the 767s been replaced rather than upgraded again. Certainly the 744 and 777 fleet will be done first - 100 aircraft in the queue before a 767 is touched.

Depends what you want service wise. Do NW charge for bar service? Still free on BA. Do you want 2-4-2 or 2-3-2 in economy? Pratts or Rolls? LGW or LHR? SkyTeam or oneworld? Guess it's what works out best for you.

Speaking from experience from flying the BWI-LHR route a couple of times, BA's 767 service is now exactly like their 777 or 747 service (at least to US destinations). I personally prefer the 767 over the 777 or 747 because of seating configuration. Plus BA offers day of flight upgrades for US$250 from World Traveler to World Traveler Plus or $500 from World Traveler to Club World. Not too bad in my opinion, considering that Club World is normally about $3000 more each way. NW's only advantage in my opinion is Video on Demand. I also think that it is a joke that you have to pay for bar service. At least give a free drink with dinner, and then charge.

In terms of inflight service, BA is way better than NW imo, no matter what plane it is. If your more interested in the plane then NW's A333's are much nicer and have better entertainment, and they're using them on the LGW-DTW route currently. Although BA's 767's have been upgraded and do now have PTV's in economy.

The NW 330's in business are super comfortable, with excellent IFE, and seating, with probably the best Business class seat (and service) on an american carrier. However, the new NW business seating is still leagues behind BA's soon to be superceeded Club World Flatbeds, and their service.

Ive yet to board a BA 767 with Flatbeds, so cant make a comparison, sorry. But having flown BA business on the 777 I'd choose BA based on that comparison.
