Report Of Boeing's Demise Greatly Exaggerated

Sat Jan 14, 2006 1:24 pm

Here's an archived story from 2003. A study was done by a couple mokes disguised as college professors that suggested the B people would be out of the business by 2013

So. How wrong do you have to be do still collect your paycheck?

In the article the professors stated that the 7E7 would not be produced...now the 787 is one of the hottest widebodies with orders from AC, QF and others.

I listened to some Phd idiot claim airport capacity in the US would be solved by larger aircraft seating 300 or more.

The list of carriers to use them included Southwest as their replacement aircraft for the 737 over the next 10 years, with the majors extensively using 777-300/747/A330/350 domestically on all the major trunk routes - regardless of distance. He demonstrated LAX to LAS capacity problems in the next 15 years would be met with WN running 787/350 size aircraft hourly and usign such large aircraft woudl reduce the cost of travel by up to 50% on such routes. He then proceeded to claim his study was funded by Boeing, to which a Boeing exec denied right then and there. This was last April. He got laughed out of the room for not understanding the utilization cost of such an aircraft on a short route and getting called out by Boeing on the spot. What an idiot.
