World Cup Flights

Mon Jan 16, 2006 10:08 pm

As airlines start to release summer 2006 schedules, and plan there fleet scheduling, has anyone found flight to Germany, with equipment upgradeds?

I have looked thought the BA schedules for the day before, of and after all the England games, and cannot see any equipment changes that seem out of the ordinary.

I remember during Portugal 2004....BA scheduled 747 and 777 to Lisbon and Faro. TAP operated 310 on all LHR flights, and an A340 went to LGW once.

Anyone seen anything?

I know Iberia plans to put an 340 flight to all cities where Spain will play its matches but at last, Iberia will only put three flights because always we do the same: to lose in first round!!!! (sorry to spanish members but I'm spanish too and is the true, no???)

The Spaniards have a favorable group this time and will end up playing (and defeating) the Swiss side in the first knockout round. If only we could be so lucky! Just when a few Americans start paying attention to soccer (that's what we call it stateside) after our decent showing in the 2002 World Cup, we get put into the group of death and are virtually guaranteed not to even get out of the group!

JAL will be doing charter flights for the Offical National Team Fan Club. These flights are cool. The F/A wear the Blue uniforms and the IFE has highlights of the previous year.

When Japan played Iran, they filled a 777. Half were women. Before landing, all the women were instructed on how to wear their shalls.

When Japan played the DPRK in Bangkok (closed game), they flew a 777 again, but the fans could only watch from a restaurant on the top floor of a near by hotel or on TV. Some sat ourside the stadium.

I think for this world Cup, JL will offer more Charter flights. They will be 777s or 747s. Depends on the demand.
Yes...I am not a KIX fan. Let's Japanese Aviation!

Well me and the boy are booked on Sterling flights in June CPH-FRA and MUC-CPH. We booked them two weekends ago. I went back onto the Sterling site to potentially look at changing the return date due to some commitments and they are booked SOLID 22-28th so far- and thats just to MUC. SK wanted $182 for that same routing ( replace FRA with DUS) before christmas, and it was over $400 two weekends ago. I am so glad he made me buy them- we got 4 one way tickets for a grand total of $185. We should find out in the next week if we got tickets via the lotteries for FIFA and the Swedish group, but even if we dont get them we are still going to go  Smile

I believe Easyjet and Ryanair will be putting on extra flights from the UK- just more frequencies rather than bigger planes (obviously). I wonder if any of the charter airlines are going to get into the act at all.

See me and a friend are following the USA for the 1st two games and the prices for the airlines are insane right now with the cheapest being US and SQ to FRA.

We are hoping to go to the first two games and find out if we received tickets, hopefully or I'm going to shoot myself in the foot. Anyway I think you won't see the airlines rerouting the big ships right now, I think they are waiting for the supply and demand or each route and the prices for June are still a little high right now, once they lower them then you'll see if the route demand goes up. I wouldn't worry about TAP though, the Portuguese team always finds a way to get out of the first round anyway.

Most of the scheduled carriers out of Australia are heavily booked for Germany.

May-june coincides with peak season out of Australia for European summer, but the fact that Australia has qualified means it will extremely busy.

EK, SQ, TG, MH and CX will be the main beneficiaries.

I'm sure if EK could get extra entitlements to Australia they would try add flights pre May 2006.

Not at the WC they don't. Last time was in 1966. Here's hoping for a much better showing than in 2002. TAP however is sure to cash in pretty good at this WC with Portugal, Brazil and Angola playing and TAP being the primary carrier to Brazil and the second only to TAAG in Angola.

Erm....no. That's not true.

In Mexico 1986 Spain made it to the quarterfinals (3rd round) and lost to Belgium in penalty kicks.
In Italy 1990 Spain made it to the 2nd round and lost to Yugoslavia 2-1.
In USA 1994 we were defeated 2-1 by Italy...again in quarterfinals.
In France 1998 we didn't go beyond the 1st round after losing to Nigeria 3-2, tying against Paraguay 0-0 and finally destroying Bulgaria 6-1 although it didn't help.
and finally, in Japan/Korea 2002 Spain was robbed when playing against Korea and we lost in penalty kicks...quarterfinals again.

What could be true is that Spain will NEVER win the world cup.

Sorry for going off topic. Please have mercy.  Smile

Me and my Mum are flying ABZ-LHR-FRA on the day of the final, not for football but for an old family friend's birthday. Hopefully there will be a good atmosphere all over the country. I was in France in '98 when they won and the whole place just went nuts. People jumping onto cars, climbing onto traffic lights. It was great. No don't worry I'm not expecting Germany to make it to the final  Wink.

I'm guessing it would take a while to cross the Atlantic on this one.

if we received tickets

This FIFA ticket draw is just nuts! They will let me know until febraury if I get the tickets or not. Unfortunatley the first game is already sold out, impossible to catch it!

I connected through FRA´s T1 back in 1998 during WC France´98 inbound from HKG and we had german business people in suits playing soccer around the waiting areas.
Got a little bit less intense (but didn´t stop) as soon as some panels fell from the ceiling ...  Smile
