AC Image Problem?

Wed Jan 18, 2006 4:06 pm

Hi All

Is it me or does anybody feel AC needs an image make over?
I flew AC YVR-KIX the ICN-YVR. This is not meant to be cruel but I could not help noticing how sloppy the F/A's looked. They were very friendly and attentive on both flights but maybe Air Canada should invest into a new look.
-The uniforms looked out of date and not very sharp
-male F/A's t had untucked shirts, ushaven males F/A, trousers to long on some female F/A's, large percentage of overweight female F/A's, some looked like they were ready for retirement.
I don't think this is a good first impression of Canada?
Are there any regulations on weight/height/age for F/A's

I compared AC to some of the other flight crew I saw with TG, SQ, PG, NH, LH, LX. I noticed the LH crew at the SOFITEL Hotel in Bangkok, and they were very sharp in dress and cofident looking. I have to admit the female F/A's looked classy.

The makeover is being rolled out but hasn't hit the fleet yet. You need to fly with AC again in a year and then decide it their makeover is to your liking.

Well AC did have make over with their new uniform, but as to appearance that they can't control over however they should have some sort of restrictions to body size to be on the airplane.

I doubt the union would allow it.

AC has not only and Image problem but has an attitude problem. I was traveling from YXU to go to Huston on AC. There was this an Airbus driver with a passenger who was elderly and had a broken leg. The AC personnel were very rude to him when he had requested assistance which was suppose to have been organized a head of time. Then when they did get around to giving him a wheelchair he was told that they were very busy an he would not have time to assist him. He eventually brought this poor woman and was ignored by all AC staff until he took her right up to the front of the check-in line and asked them again if they could look after her as he had to go. At this point he finally found some one would assist her.

This is a classic example of what happens when you pay someone too much money & then cut their salary to a more realistic level. The attitude is all wrong & almost impossible to fixs, so best to try & get rid of them, somehow.

Bullsh1t!! Your comments are sizeist!

Whilst weight restrictions on FA's are, to the best of my knowledge, in place, they are too strict.

Those people are there primarily for your safety and secondly to make your journey as pleasant as possible. Granted, they should look the part but size has absolutely nothing to do with it (unless of course they're chronically obese in which case htey'd probably be outed on medical grounds).

I am overweight with a BMI of 28. However, when I wear a suit I look as good as the best FA and I pride myself on giving an excellent quality customer service. So why should my size preclude me from being a FA? I assure you I can give a far more pleasant service, thus enhancing the image of the airline, than some skinny 25 year old with a bad attitude!

All these people complaining about the FA's and their size...I am willing to bet that they are just as large.......perhaps you should look into a mirror before you make sexist moronic comments like that.

I for one am glad that we have laws that do not allow idiots to discriminate against people based on how they look.

Second that! In October 2004 I was in hospitality+ on one of those dilapidated 763s on YYZ-FRA, and as I got out of the lavatory, I couldn't get back to my seat because both aisles were blocked by the catering trolleys serving breakfast. I decided to stand and wait near one of the lavatories, when one of the FAs quite rudely told me to get back to my seat. When I explained the problem she totally didn't try to understand, and repeated her nonsensical request. Finally, she told me to sit down at any available seat an not loiter around (sic). It took me more than 45 minutes waiting before I could get back to my seat... and that's no problem at all, but the way she asked it!!! Ridiculous really..
