FI: Bumper December Key To Airbus Orders Victory

Thu Jan 19, 2006 12:12 am

I thought this article deserves its own thread as there's a nice detailed chart of orders concluded in December:

Good for airbus. There the obvious kings of the narrow body airplane. When it comes to the heavy metal though, we all know where to look for the champ!!

They deserve credit for getting that Chinese order done before the end of the year. I wonder if the Chinese asked for any consideration in return for accomodating Airbus.

I think the 'consideration' is to be a Chinese aircraft production facility and the technology transfer that goes with it.

Congrats to Airbus, they certainly burned the mid-night oil to beat Boeing in 2005.

I wonder how does the top brass at Boeing feels right now, thinking that the record orders in 2005 was still not enough to beat Airbus. However, I do believe Boeing's wide body fleet will continue to beat Airbus' counterpart in the next few years, and that's where the big money is.

Thanks Leelaw. Seems like a lot of undisclosed.
Enclosed chart is another breakdown of the final B & A sales and deliveries from last year. It was published this morning in Dutch newspaper "De Volkskrant". The accompanying article points out that Airbus is a little sad despite their new record....
The chart breaks down orders for existing aircraft models and orders for new models. Sorry it is in Dutch only.

"Analysts have pointed out that Boeing’s orders were worth more in dollar terms than Airbus’s, fuelling speculation that Airbus may have dipped deeper into its discount pocket than previously, in order to win the symbolic victory of total orders."

that's interesting.......we'll see how it affects their bottom line, thats when we'll know..

but it could be that Airbus has developed/implemented/using more efficient techniques for building their planes like Boeing has, hence not screwing up their profit margins...

kudos to Airbus for pulling it off...but the caveat is that too many sales relied on their single-isle planes........

What does the line mean with -56 at airbus? And -14 for boeing? -14 is only the cancelations for the 717, there were others for the other models (and 1 reversal in the 777). -56 can't be the cancelations for the A300 only, so what is it?

For Boeing, the "in production types" are net of cancellations and total 1016, less 717 cancellations of 14, equals 1002.

Congrats to Airbus on pulling out a last minute, wait 17 day late victory! What a remarkable year for the A320 to say the least. I wonder what the future holds for Airbus though. The A320 is selling like hot cakes, but now you have to manufacture all of those airframes and in future orders will not have those slots available. While the A320 destroyed the 737 this year, it seems that Airbus relied totally on this market segment. The 787/777 tandem is dominating the twin engine widebody segment and has for all intensive purposes obliterated the A340 and to some extent the A330. Also, the ancient 747 which only a year ago was destined for the scrap heap garnered more orders than the A380. I can't wait to see what the new year brings!

Yes it's cancelations. It says only 717 at the minus 14 but it says A300 "among others"....
