JetBlue Into AUS!

Thu Jan 19, 2006 4:51 am

I will be at the airport, AUS, with my cameras (Canon 300D and Konica Minolta Z5) to shoot some pics of the B6 arrivals and departures tomorrow.

Anyone care to join? I'm carded from FX and the AUS airport, so I'm guessing I'm gonna be on the ramp if I'm alone!

Let me know!

I'm thinking about ditching class and driving up from SAT for this...I wonder which runway it's gonna get.

Was thinking the same thing, I might go over to the passenger terminal before hand and poke around at the B6 counter and see what I can find out.

I went out to the viewing are but missed any photos since it landed on 17R.
I did go back at lunch and caught some departure shots on 17L.
It is a really nice looking plane. I met a older couple at the
viewing area that said that there was a lot of media in
the terminal for the arrival. Did any of you get any shots
of the 1st arrival??

Here is a good link with a news story video
on the viewing area. It is next to the state aircraft pooling board
on golf course rd. just east of the main entrance to the airport.

Will do for sure! Will try and get them screened by Airliner people, but it that lasts too long, I'll just link them in a new blog.

Wow! This sure is getting a lot of press here in town...

Austin American-Statesman article

There were also stories in Sunday's paper highlighting how to do quick trips to New York and Boston from here.

I can't say that I've ever seen this much press for a new airline in any city I've lived in.

Excuse me for my ignorance, but what plane is B6 flying to Austin? The A320 or E190?

Neeleman didn't fly his own airline to town, but wouldn't say which other airline he took. "Not Southwest," he stressed.

So if he believes in his own company so much why not fly his own product/service? Lame CEO excuse if you ask me! He did fly WN and wont admit it!  stirthepot

I am a Round Rock resident, and B6 uses the BITER arrival, so I won't see it until I head south. I really need to get to the airport!

well if he did fly WN, could it be because he had to be in AUS BEFORE the inagural flight.....meaning no jetblue service to AUS at THAT time. He always flies on jetBlue OBVIOUSLY and doesn't sit as a customer either. He helps the F/A's the whole time. Talks to all of the customers to get feed back and suggestions. Besides, yes there is some rivalry between WN and jetBlue but that doesn't mean we don't fly on WN....we miss our service but one flight every now and then isn't THAT bad.... So before you go calling him a "lame CEO", meet him in person first and you'll see what a great guy he is....I sure did.

He wanted to be there when the B6 plane arrived so he probably flew AA to get there or someone besides WN. He even said in the article not Southwest, and he stressed it. I don't think that is lame and he is anything but a lame CEO.

What is odd about there AUS flights is that they will leave JFK or AUS early or ontime and still get into AUS/JFK about 15 minutes late. I think they need to adjust the flight times because the flight obviously cannot do that time.

It is usually due to taxi time delays at JFK. As we all know, JFK is VERY BUSY so sometimes our planes depart the gate on-time or even early yet take off almost an hour later! That of course doesn't ALWAYS happen but a good 30 minutes for sure. Thankfully, we have the LiveTV so it's not that bad of a wait. Several flight arrival times have been adjusted due to this situation. Our last flight into RSW from JFK was adjusted due to that problem.

Neeleman and crew have been flying non-stop from JFK on Delta Connection, operated by Shuttle America. They all flew down earlier this week on our 170. A week and a half ago I had Mike Barger on one of my JFK-AUS flights, but by himself. They've been flying us quite regularly these past couple of weeks! Great group of people.

Do you guys think DL will pull out of this market now that B6 is in it with larger aircraft?

I don't think so. Our loads have been hovering at 50+, which is much better to the 20-30 we had when we started this route last October. And for the foreseeable future, it seems to be hanging in that arena. Delta, on average, needs to sell 39 seats on our 170 to make money (remember, thats on average), and first has been mostly full to and from Austin, so they're doing pretty okay for now. As always, loads don't translate into profit, but it has certainly performed much worse than it currently is. We are also starting AUS-SLC next month for DL.
