You just can't win can you!!

It's a system-wide fleet and cabin environment improvement starting with the newest aircraft first.

The 190's will shortly be operating on thin domestic long-haul routes like YYZ-YLW bordering on 5 hours, so I think it will be a welcome customer addition.

Why Jan 23?  confused

The only significance of that day is the Canadian Federal Election.

To me, Feb 1 - the start of a new month would be a better date to introduce a new entertainment system....

The upgrades to the Airbus narrrowbodies and Boeing 767-300s begin in spring. A330s to follow later, probably next winter when AC will also start getting its first 777s. The A340s will not get the upgrade as they will be displaced by the 777s.

No it's not, I have no idea where they get this kind of PR statement.

i4500 is derived from already existing i4000 system, but was "arranged" to suit the regional jets type of constraints.

It is lighter, less consumer of power, and they do have those nice 16/9 format screens.

But Panasonic's 3000i system on VIR, SIA, EK and others provides more functionalities.

And wait for the Panasonic eX2 system on CX's fleet soon, and A380, as well as Thales' i5000 on A380.
No matter what anybody tells you, words and ideas can change the world.

I suspect this is a rapidly changing technology and that it is only state of the art when the installation starts for the fleet. By the time all aircraft are changed over another two generations of technology have passed.

I thought all the EMB's where delivered with the IFE already installed just not operational. So I guess on Jan 23rd they will simply be turned on for the first time for passengers.

Will the B777 have the same system?

I would think that the new executive suits will have an enhanced version of the IFE, bigger screens and more choices.

What kind of IFE is on AC's A345s? I know it has a tendency of re-booting or completely failing on its HGK flights.

.

The first "batch" of EMB's had the screens installed but deactivated with no software system installed pending Transport Canada approval. All current EMB's will have the system installed.

While Thales is the systems provider, I presume the technology will be concurrent with whatever is state of the art at the time of aircraft assembly/delivery.

Agreed, and of course it will be self contained as opposed to seat back.

MAS3000 system. Have operated dozens of HKG cycles. While the system requires MANY individual reboots, have never experienced complete system failure.

Are you sure?
I went and checked out the first EMB175 the day it arrived at the gate in YYZ, and every seat had the screens in place. The same was true for the 2 that followed!

Thanks FLYACYYZ!

I can't wait till the B767 and A330's will have IFE's and new seats. They will make those aircrafts seem totally new to the flying public.

Picky, picky. Was just editing my post. Meant to indicate the screens were in place, the software was pending installation. A.netters will jump on you for every faux pas!!

No need to shoot the messenger. No different than the claims Boeing would make versus Airbus or Toyota versus Nissan.

That's true to a degree, but the major IFE makers have stated that the next generation, already under development for the 787 and A350, will mainly distinguish itself by being wireless, and even that isn't such a huge enhancement from the carrier and customer standpoint. This is something the manufacturers of the aircraft seem to want, not necessarily the carriers. The screen content features will be pretty much as we see them today.

Yeah finally. Its time they catch up with the rest of the world. It is embarrasing having our national carrier be one of the last to operate long haul aircraft with large screens at the front of each cabin and no choice of entertainment other than *whats showing* !!!

What does it matter? It's not a full rollout. They can't advertise it? It will be a very soft launch. Any date is fine.

KL and LH have main screen for the Y cabin. personal tv for J cabin. Most charter carriers also show main screen thourgh out. can't wait till the new system arrives. I am really sick of people blocking my view of the movie when they root hrough the overhead bins for thier stuff.

KLM has got Y-class AVOD on the 772's and 332's. That is already a sizealbe part of the longhaul fleet, and with the 763's eing phased out and new 772's and A332's joining the fleet in near future an even bigger part of the fleet will be AVOD-equipped aircraft... If they'd only decide to upgrade the 744 fleet with the AVOD-system... wich they (foolishly) decided against I heared...
