DL Promotes New Scottish Service

Fri Jan 20, 2006 1:36 am

January 19, 2006

"Delta is working with the Ga. Department of Tourism to promote the airline's first flight between the U.S. and Scotland. Delta representatives will meet visitors to the Holiday and Travel Show in Glasgow, Scotland, from Friday through Sunday to raise awareness of the new service between Edinburgh and Atlanta, which begins on May 4.

The Holiday and Travel show is the largest leisure travel event in Scotland, attracting about 50,000 visitors over a three-day period. Scottish travelers' top U.S. destinations include the West Coast and Florida. Delta's U.K. sales team has worked closely with Pricing and Revenue Management to find attractive early-booking offers, with some low introductory fares to Atlanta and beyond.

Last week, the U.K. sales team and the Ga. Department of Tourism were at Manchester's Holiday and Travel Show to promote Delta's existing daily service to Atlanta and the new service to New York that begins May 15."

Any idea how the advertising is going on the otehr side of the pond? A large proportion of COs passengers are inbound tourists, if the route is to be a success Delta needs to be capturing this market as well.

Not seen any advertising here yet, certainly not on the scale of CO.

I think they should paraphrase the old Saturday Night Live skit...

About a week ago I was looking at the loads ATL-EDI and EDI-ATL. Both were VERY VERY light. Still early.

Not very encouraging, though its yields what matter

Wonder what the loads are like in August. If they are low then the route wont have that much of a chance of working, which would be a great shame for EDI's long haul route development
