A Doubt: It's LanChile Or Just LAN?

Fri Jan 20, 2006 2:37 am

Greetings;

I'm just wondering if the correct name of LA is still LanChile or just LAN [or both] as appear in the new livery?

Thanks in advance.

Hello TACAA320

Both are still used commercially. LAN is the group name and then LAN+ name are the subsidaries per country.

LAN recently 'opened up' here in Argentina but I dont hear LAN Argentina all that much - its still LAN. You can see this for example on the Aeropuertos Argentinas website www.aa2000.com.ar on the flight info page. The real operators are both LAN Chile and LAN Argentina but it is far more common now, such is their presence in the South American market to simply refer to them as LAN.

But as I say, commercially the 2 entities still exist!

Saludos

Mark

yes, LAN did this for product identity (too many names such as LAN peru, LAN ecuador, LAN argentina, LAN chile creates confusion). Think of it as calling themselves, "Cher" or "Madonna"

Actually, all brands remain, EXCEPT LAN CHILE, now just called Lan Airlines.

All Lan Peru, Lan Ecuador, Lan Argentina and Lan Express are alive. Lan Chile is gone (those kjhd hljdsfhgsdj<@@@)

Arcano-

How does LAN Express fit in with the rest of the LAN group? I realize that it is somehow the remnants of UC, but it seems like it's nothing more than a branding thing now.

Indeed, actually, flying LAN Express at least twice a month, you realize that Lan Express just operates Lan Chile (LA, or just "LAN Airlines") flights. So, you never buy a Lan Express ticket, all your domestic flights are "LA" and "operated by Lan Express".

I think it's just a matter of permissions and operations, as LAN Cargo still uses Ladeco (UC) flights in some routes.

Recently flew quite a few internal LAN flights. The headrests have LAN Express seat covers fitted, otherwise you'd have no idea that the service wasn't operated by LAN Airlines. There was no distinction at check in or at any point that I could perceive.
