Jet2 And Wideroe To Start NCL-Bergen

Fri Jan 20, 2006 6:19 pm

WF will start 3 weekly NCL-BGO on 26th March and Jet2 will start 3 weekly NCL-BGO on 24th April.
A bit strange to see that 2 carriers will operate this route considering that nobody currently operates it.

Same days of operation as well. NCL is not happy with the situation, but what can they do?

NCL-Norway flights as follows:

Ryanair 738 Daily to Oslo
Wideroe DH3 Daily to Stavanger
Wideroe DH3 3 weekly to Bergen
Jet2 733 3 weekly to Bergen

Plus occasional charters to Stord and some other bits

very odd. Having two carriers with low frequnecies. Nice to see airlines showing an interest in the old NCL-Norway routes, what was firm Dan Air territory in the past.

Would be nice if LS would start MAN-BGO, it would save my family and our friend a lot of trouble. We use to use to WF flight until that got dropped. Anyway, nice to see LS expanding into a new market.

I suspect the demand for MAN-BGO wouldnt fill a 733 at a decent frequency.

The MAN-BGO route is a route ideal for a RJ. That way fares can be kept quite high and good yield. Norway is a popular tourist destination for wealthier, older people willing to pay higher fares for a convenient departure.

WF did quite well on the route. Yes the fares weren't cheap but they still managed to quite well. However they thought they could get better aircraft utilisation by adding more domestic flights rather than sending it to MAN. I would think a 3 times weekly service would be sufficient.

Also Wideroe had a good aircraft for the route, in the Dash 8. The 733 would be overkill and fares would have to be cheap to fill the aircraft.

Forgot to say, Norwegian run charter flights between NCL and BGO using 737s for about 8 weeks starting in February running through March, April

You calling Stord a "bit" are you?  Wink

Ah yes, the good old days.

I'm going from Norway to Newcastle around 8th of April, so I checked www.wideroe.no to find flights BGO-NCL, but that was not to be found yet. Could be a better option than going all the way across the country to Sandefjord to get the Ryanair flight to NCL...

Keep me updated if any more info turns up.

Good to see an increase in services between NCL and Norway

Newcastle has always been an important gateway for Norwegians arriving to the UK, and still is one of the friendliest places to arrive!

New routes follow an old and good tradition in NCL - Norway connections and relations

Are there SAS codeshares on these two routes?

Bit funny in my opinion, EDI has a Bergen service before one to Oslo

I don't think LS would codeshare with anyone. It's a good job there's a jobsfair at NCL next Friday, so I can go and get a job to help them cope with extra passengers as the airport is going from strength to strength. I just wish EZY would announce some new routes.

Oslo - Torp (TRF) has a daily Glasgow - Prestwick (PIK) service with Ryanair though, and Oslo - Gardermoen (OSL) has a twice daily service to Aberdeen (ABZ) with City Star Airline. Scotland is quite well served from Oslo

I think there is scope for increased services, though. OSL-EDI was one of Duo Airways' stronger routes before the airline collapsed. I'm sure there is potential for an Oslo Gardermoen to Edinburgh service to be reinstated. A lo-co service, perhaps Sterling, might work best?

Only if it was from Glasgow  Wink
I would imagine both would do well, although it would have been better if they were operating on different days

Using Widerøe to/from Newcastle give frequent miles at SAS Eurobonus.

Service from Bergen starts at 0810 in the morning, and Jet2 at 1800 in the evening. Perfect - mix and match :=)

The Wideroes service will now operate five times a week (increase in frequency for the EDI service too)
