No pics, my friend has some. I'll try to work something out.

More details:

Aircraft landed just after a WestJet 737 (unsure of flight #). Visibility had improved slightly over the 1/4sm reported.

Reverse thrust was heard for a "longer than usual" period of time.

Aircraft is stopped with the mains just off the end of the pavement, and the nose wheel sitting down a 10 to 20 foot drop-off. Fuselage is nearly on the ground, nose wheel definitely stuck.

As of right now, the aircraft is slowly sinking into the soft ground and they are trying to figure out how to get it out of there. Debating the use of skid plates under the nose gear and a few tugs to pull it back up to the runway.

More info to relay:

The aircraft is well-stuck, and the plan to use two tugs, one on each main, won't work. The nose is sinking too deeply into the wet ground. And another issue is the fuel on board. They can't defuel the plane, as the only equipment capable is already full of fuel from a 727 undergoing a C check.

So it'll be there for a while if any of you YYZ area snappers want some pics...

hahaha. Whenever I see this quote, well, it's always awesome. I think us airline afficianado's should bring it out in real life, in random situations and see what the layperson thinks it.

I hope that they can repair that A/C I've seen it all over the country from MIA to SEA.

Always nice to see a 707, especially with a nice tail print like that one...

This is the same plane that was in PHL for the last couple of days. It left yesterday for BUF. I saw them loading the catering onto it around 12:30pm on my way home from work. It was used by Pearl Jam last year as well.

Glad they are OK. Buffalo and Hamilton are so close that had they left HSBC arena in a Limo and driven to Hamilton they would be there in little more than an hour. I realize the plane was going there anyway. It was probably a 12 minute flight.

It is a pity this happened especially to such a nice classic. More importantly I am glad everyone is fine. It is a coincidence that there have been a few trends just recently on this exact aircraft. Hope it will keep flying.

Landing fees? Its why most charters use CYHM. Sports, music, etc. They typically all go through Hamilton and then bus/limo to the venue.

If a plane goes off the end of a runway and nobody's there with a digital camera, did it really happen?

That made me chuckle! ha ha ha  bigthumbsup

My guess is this flight probably opted for YHM for 3 reasons:

1. noise abatement at YYZ after hours
2. 60% less landing and parking fees
3. hassle free ramp space

I have heard an extraction team from Air Canada may be called in to remove this 4-holer from the mud.

Got 'em.. Don't know if they're A.net quality, but I got 'em.

I"ll try to upload them to A.net with priority.

I had to crawl through private-property and mud up to my ankles, but I got 'em. lol

Impressions:

1) Looks like it was a slow-speed departure from the runway. It doesn't look like it's that far off the pavement..

2) It *definitely* sank after it came to a rest..

3) I would be *very* surprised if this plane was not repairable, IF any repairs are needed at all.. They had at *least* one of the engines running, possibly more, which indicates to me that mechanically, the powerplants are okay..

It looks like any repairs will be strictly cosmetic and perhaps the nose-gear may need some slight repairs..

We had a 727 go off the runway a few weeks ago - very similar situation. Very low speed when it left the pavement, and the aircraft sank to its axles. Getting it out was fun - it took a crane with 150,000 pounds of lifting capacity to free her from the mud (the mud sucked the gear right in - then froze).

Aircraft was rinsed off and inspected, and flew out the following day. No major damage, and it's already back in service. I'm certain this 707 will fly again, very soon.  bigthumbsup

I am sure Kelowna Flight Craft will be able to get that baby going again.

and I am sure the shots are worth the mud.

YHM is the perfect airport for these special flights no hassle at least 60%
cheaper than YYZ and you can fly in or out at any time of the day.

Folks don't laugh, but my wife and I actually saw him perform about 2 years ago. They still put on a great show; much better then a lot of current acts. There is something to be said for a career of 25 years that he has had. Maybe if I butter him up by singing his praises, I can get a ride of that B707 of his!!!  bigthumbsup
