New Heathrow Terminal Planned?

Sun Jan 22, 2006 3:13 am

Hello all

I just read a post and someone found a link to Heathrow TV. There are news about the airport Here's the link http://www.heathrowtv.com/

Here's one of the news.

New Heathrow terminal planned
10 November 2005

Proposals for a new terminal building in the central area capable of handling 30 million passengers a year have been

announced by BAA.

Terminal 2 and the Queens Building will be demolished to make way for the new building, provisionally called Heathrow East.

BAA hopes that there will be no need for a planning inquiry as it sits on existing buildings and the development could be

completed in time for the 2012 Olympics. Costs are likely to be £1.5 billion, a third the price of Terminal 5 because most of

the transport infrastructure is already in place.

The new terminal is likely to be used by Star Alliance members such as BMI and Lufthansa amongst other airlines

any comments are appreciate please.

Once T 5 is complete they will demolish terminal 2 which BAA estimates will cost £10-20 million. There is also a proposal to for the closure or redevelopment of terminal 1 also. Also this must be supported by the Civil Aviation Aurthority if the project is to go ahead.

What will happen to all of the flights at T2 while the development is taking part?

After the musical chairs, BAA suggest T2 will be underutilised.

Well as ALL BA flights are moving to T5, a lot of space at T1 and T4 will be saved. I'm sure the capacity can be spread across Terminals 1, 3 and 4.

working at heathrow we have heard this for a while.

what the aim is that all star alliance carriers will shift to terminal 1 to make it a star terminal

terminal 2 is horrid it has low ceilings and just awful

question is what about the airlines that united ground handle for they have said they wont move and united wont send staff to other terminals!

if emirates have the a380 wont they have to use T5 as that will be the only one equiped...same with singapore.

maybe that will be some of the plane with the new one to bring it upto those standards for the planes.

so long as the air con works in the T1 building when we move I dont care!

No they will use hotel initially, 3 new Code F stands there just about to open. Once T1/2 is done they'll move out leaving Virgin to use hotel exclusively.

This is the new piers...I forgot about those opening, they are open and all stands have been renumbered causing no end of problems.

I am sorry i am a mere woman and dont understand your 'hotel' terminology are you trying to say that Virgin will have all of T3? I have not heard any such rumours in fact just the opposite.

No - the new Pier 6 has been purpose built to accomodate the A380.

so is this person refering to hotel as T3?

if so are virgin having A380's?

does anyone believe there is the capacity to check in a large flight currently in T3.

Airlines are so squashed into T3 that to check in that many people would be verging on dangerous in one zone. There is no decent crowd control. In the evenings it is a nightmare and can take 20 minutes to walk from one end of check in to the other due to lines and people refusing to move a few inches one way or the other to let a stock trolley through.

Let's hope they pen the pax outside the terminal!

Emirates will not use the A380 to LHR. No airline with GP7000 engines will. They can't. The GP7000 is not under Heathrow noise requirements. There is a new pier at T3 which will handle A380s. The only A380 at T5 will be QF. This is what is proposed:

http://www.baa.com/assets/B2CPortal/...tatic%20Files/LHReast_birdseye.jpg

T2 and T1 will be rebuilt as a new, glorious, and efficient terminal.
The UAL and AA pier at T3 will be demolished and rebuilt in a new configuration.

Since the rest of T1 has been recently refurbished, if you think about it, the oldest part of Heathrow becomes T4. (which is good for an airport like this).

All this is expected to be finished by the 2012 Olympics.

T1 will become Virgin and Star Alliance
T3 will become One World
T4 will become Skyteam (which, if you think about it, only requires like 10 gates? (4 for Air France/KLM, 1 for CSA Chech, 2 for Alitalia, and 1 for Korean Air, plus 2 for future frequency increase)). Also, all other airlines will fill the rest of the gates at T4
T5 will become BA and QF.

I hope T4 will get some renovation before then. The Baggage Claim looks awful.

No, BAA have been looking at the following terminal arrangements:
T1 = Star Alliance

T2 = DEMOLISHED (subject to approval by the CAA)

T3 = Virgin (they recently signed a contract with BAA and the designers of HKG to refurbish their area of the terminal), oneworld carriers, (except BA and possibly QF) + non alligned carriers.

T4 = Skyteam + non alligned carriers, so they will need more than 10 gates. It is also important to remember that Air France, Alitalia and KLM handle other airlines at LHR, for example Olympic, China Eastern, Icelandair, Tunisair, Air Seychelles, Kenya Airways, Aeroflot and many others! In addition, with EU-US Open Skies on the way, if CO/DL are able to get slots they will be in T4!

T5 = Britsh Airways and possibly Qantas.

Also the new terminal consists of demolishing T1 & T2 and building a new larger terminal, capable of handling 30 million passengers a year. My question is, where will the Star Alliance carriers go if T1 is demolished?

Here is the BAA press release including pictures.

The old Hotel (H) apron, now known as Pier 6. Virgin will not have all of T3. As mentioned above oneworld will move into T3 and share it with Virgin. Concorde above has got it right almost.

Post T1/2 redevelopment, those main alliances will each occupy the terminals mentioned above. The extra bit of information is that each of T1/2/3/4 will each get some non allianced carriers. There are many different allocation options on the table but nothing is firmed up yet and doesn't need to be for a while. The priority is to organise the big musical chair with the allianced airlines while shutting T1/2 for redev. It's only easy to move the small operators.

First of all, your link doesn't go to anywhere. The picture I provided is an official BAA photo. With whats on that photo, there is NO WAY that Virgin is not going to T3, regardless of what contract the previously signed. This new plan came out after that. BA, BMI, and Virgin are the only 3 carriers based in LHR, and they are the ones who get the best of the best. (BA in T5 and BMI/Virgin in T1).
