Could AC Do YVR To AKL Using 340-300 If...?

Mon Jan 23, 2006 11:58 pm

Hello all I was just comparing the distance between YYZ to HKG 6787nm A340-500 vs YYZ to PVG 6176nm A340-300 then just thinking the flight from YVR to SYD 6741nm A340-500 vs YVR to AKL 6121nm A340-300 is very close in proxmity of flying distance. Is it possible AC could introduce the YVR to AKL right of way if they have enough 340-300s to do that route? I know they are using the 340-500 for HKG only because they have two a/c. The AKL service would be nonstop so no need to stop and refuel in HNL for AKL sector. I know when they get their new B777-200LRs and B787-8s soon they will open up AKL later but what if they could open up now or earlier than they anticipate with enough A/C to spare for that route.

your comments are appreciate please.

CI was initially doing TPE-JFK eastbound non stop with A343s which is 6700nm, they still have to do some 6000+nm routes to Europe both ways so YVR-AKL is probably doable though I have no clue what the winds are like on that trip.

There lies the problem. AC does not have enought A340's (awaiting 777's/787's) period. Optimally, YYZ-PEK was to operate daily this summer, but in order to get the YYZ-PVG route up and running, they had to split the route 4/3 frequencies respectively, due to aircraft shortage.

As discussed in previous posts, there's a whole list of routes slated for equipment upgrades (virtually all routes in Asia), and new route possibilities, well ahead of launching YVR-AKL.
