Does that mean that it's 6pm on the US east coast tonight; and we'll know before we go to sleep?

No idea what but I'm thinking it must be something 'positive' (for the costumers). Why else would they make a large announcement for a press conference and attract media with this 'big bang' thing? If it was something like paying for checked bags they wouldn't try to get everyone's attention, would they....(although that O'leary guy seems mad enough..)

Lets see....

My guesses would be

1.Charging for Checked in baggage
2. Allow Pre assigned seating ( correct me if I am wrong, but no other LCC offers this currently?)
3. Stop all other forms of booking tickets (internet/telephone) and let people book and check-in at the check-in desks on the day.
4. An alliance with other LCC's in Europe?

Can't wait for tomorrow if this is true!

G'day

Easyjet is to announce the merger with Jetblue of the US, Kingfisher of India and Air Asia of Malaysia to form the worlds largest LCC. Longrange operations will be started this summer, initially connecting the hubs of the merged carriers. In the medium term regional and longrange operations will be expanded to cover the entire globe, to effectively compete with LCC upsprings such as Emirates and Singapore Air.

A new name for the combined entity will have to be adopted, EasyblueAsiafish is one of the names being considered.  Smile

Cheers

3. Stop all other forms of booking tickets (internet/telephone) and let people book and check-in at the check-in desks on the day.

Seems to me to be a seriously bad idea.

Two reasons;

Firstly, If you get to the airport and the flights are booked for that day, what do you do, sleep on the floor.

Secondly, flight times/dates are often linked to booking time off work and accomodation at the destination. If dates do not match, what then.

Contrary to the impression given, this is not a bus service.

Your all wrong! The truth is Ryanair have for while been concerned with the view of them, especially here on a.net. To that end, they're becoming a full service airline to satisfy all the people who cant help but whinge about FR whenever they log on to a.net.

Perhaps the remaining 737's they have on order are going to be delivered without windows so that passengers cannot see the third world airports that Ryanair fly into........... this saves money and by the time the passengers have realised that they need to travel to the local town by Horse and Cart, with the quick turnaround the aircraft has buggered off into the sunset so they are stranded! Wink

Inflatable seats?
Blow them up youself, and the lighter seat would save on costs?
Charging for luggage?
Making all passengers wear a tshirt with an advert on it?
Removal of overhead storage bins to save costs?

Delete as necessary...

Perhaps their big bang theory comes in part from the recent events in Florida. Ryanair is now going to do all of their refueling in the air while asking passengers to parachute out of the plane as they fly over your city, thus cutting costs by not paying terminal or landing fees and making it possible to service more destinations.

Of course you will still have to pay for the parachute when boarding the plane, but hey look on the bright side - as long as you know how to re-pack your own chute it's a one time fee

Can it be a "pioneering improvment of the low-cost concept" if it is already being done in the States? If not, then it must be truly revolutionary. If so, then it's probably OLCI.

They were considering re-registering their aircraft in Latvia, probably because Latvian regulations do not require 4,5 crew per aircraft. That seems to be killing them in Ireland with 4 new planes coming in per month..

However, that wouldn't be a "pioneering improvement of the low-cost concept". So I guess it has something to do with online check-in possibilities, and maybe an announcement they're going to charge you for your non-handluggage. That's what I'd expect.

But I could imagine they're going to convert their B738's into double-deckers, enabling them to cram 350 pax in one plane.

Who the hell would want to buy AZ, except to simply get it out of the market (I'll offer 10 EUR)? When - not if - AZ ceases to exist, there'll be lots of routes to pick over, but I wonder how many are profitable, considering AZ is government-owned and thus not profit-driven.

AZ is government-owned and politically involved. While sympathizing with the vast majority of good guys whose job is now at risk, I know that many people in AZ (and their families, relatives, friends) are a big pool for votes... and remind that April, 9th we will go to elect our new government.
Don't be so sure that AZ will close at least in the near future; Italian ministers that asked for that are a minority, while both the government and the unions (as it happened for the railway company, as happened with FIAT, as happened with other public or private companies) will "use" the situation as long as it will meet their political interest.

Ryaniar announce a new passenger charter.
You have no rights
You will pay for our misdeeds
We will not repatriate you under any circumstances if we cancel a flight ( even if it is our fault)
You will not be allowed to eat or drink on the plane unless we supply the food and drink at our ( soon to be increased ) exorbitant prices
You will not bring any bags to be loaded in the aircraft, So you will take your bags to the aircraft and collect them when landed. By they way that will cost you 20 per sector
We will not provide a seat per passenger. So when we book a flight we will overbook by 15% and ,as we have free seating it will be like musical chairs and the last few will be offloaded with no refund. Bad chuck
We will have a large increase in flight programme but no more aircraft and so we will take your money and then let you knowm we have cancelled the flight due to poor loads when you cannot get any other possible transport. We will then take 28 months to refund your money.
We will activly sell extra services but will accept no responsibility for them So if they go bust and you cannot get the holiday you want because of the ground you booked through a link Tough

Not quite... I don't think they would call a press conference to tell everyone that it will cost you EUR20 to use a wheelchair, or EUR10 to use the potty in flight.

To call a preference conference, my guess is that they are creating a new business, a la, trans-Atlantic service with stripped out 787s. Or as someone else mentioned, travel related services.
