Modern Marvels On History Channel Last Night

Thu Jan 26, 2006 3:58 am

Anybody else see this episode on large planes? They were discussing the GE engines on the 777 and showed video of the engine tests where they shot 4 tons of water into the engine in one minute....and the engine continued to run. Then they shot a ton and a half of ice (hail) in 30 seconds...again the engine continued to run. Really incredible. Even more incredible was the static test of the engines, which blew up 4 ton slabs of rock like they were paper.

I saw that, too. Those things are monsters. It was interesting seeing the test engine on the 747 test bed. It dwarfed the standard engines.

It was an awesome video! I think I have it on VHS, but only have a DVD player now. When it went out, I didn't replace it. Might have to take it to a friend's.

I just found it, awesome little web site by GE. Look at the bottom right side and click the "safety" and you can see a few tests. The rest of the page is neat too.
