Delta - Which Aircraft Will Get The Song IFE?

Thu Jan 26, 2006 5:57 am

Does anyone know which aircraft in Delta's fleet will get the Song IFE?

I know the 757s will be getting it. Also the 737-800s and 767-300 (non-ER) may get it. The 767-300 especially needs an IFE upgrade as its system is sooo out of date. I also hope the domestic 767-400ERs gets it.

Also the 737-800s

I don't know if anything will change on these, especially since they already have the overhead LCD screens. I wouldn't think they'd change and
take out the original LCD IFE system but I could be wrong.

Those screens however are NOT PTVs. To have the ability to change video channels, PTVs are required.

I presume that all of the non-ER 767-300s will get them, as well as the 737-800s. Of course the 757s will get them as well. That way the only DL aircraft without IFE are 737-200/300s and MD-88s.

The DAL announcement specifically stated only that 50 more 757 would get the IFE to give DAL approx 100 B757 in 2 class arrangement with TV. No mention was made on any other portion of the fleet at that time or since.

IMHO given their current financial situation any continued speculation here on additional aircraft/fleet types may be specious.

Actually, if you read it carefully, it says the 48 existing 757s will be converted, but then it says "Converting an additional 50-plus Delta aircraft to two-class Song service"; it doesn't specify which aircraft those 50-plus are. Other types will be converted as well because some of these longer-than-1,750 miles-routes cannot fully support a 757 (e.g., the recently announced LAX-CMH and LAX-RDU flights).

Which points to the 738 as the prime candidate for 'Songisation', particularly the ex-Shuttle planes, IMHO. Though a few 763ERs might also be a good option, seeing as those are also being used on quite a few routes longer than 1,750mi.
