This is a wonderful upgrade making this cabin look very stylish, spacious and modern. It looks great!  veryhappy  ... nice to see some new life on this older model  Smile

When did Continental Airlines begin upgrading their 767-200/ER's? How many aircraft will be converted?

These are new-build 767-200ERs and were delivered in this configuration between 2000 and 2002.

Basically all 767s ordered from 2000 on have the Signature Interior. Those ordered prior to 2000, but not yet built had the option of changing the Signature Interior instead of the old interior.

All Continental 767's have the 777 style cabin architecture. These include 10 767-200ER's and 16 767-400's.

Is it possible to retrofit the 767 older models as far back as maybe 1982/83 with this cabin? I know FCA have the tarted up cabins but this cabin rocks on the 767.

All of the CO 767s are a great ride. My outbound EWR-ZRH was upgraded to a 767-400 and that was the best ride I have ever experienced in any aircraft - just rock solid and you hardly felt the climb and as quiet as anything in the economy cabin. The 762 seems a bit more outdated by comparison, but it is no less roomy and comfy. It also rides solid though it is not as quiet. When combined with the 2-3-2 seating, the new 777-style cabin really gives the 767s that airy feel.

All of the 767s, the -200s included have the upgraded cabin. They have been flying since late 2000.

The IFE is very good; there is a variety of video/music/interactive features to keep one busy. It is not one of the superb AVOD systems found in some European/Asian airlines (not to mention the NWA A330s), but it is good enough. They are definitely worth checking out.

I had the pleasure of flying both the CO 767-224ER and the 767-424ER in BusinessFirst back in 2000 when these where factory-fresh. The service was impeccable in both instances. I especially loved the single middle seat in BusinessFirst; I felt I had the whole cabin to myself.

I flew CO EWR-GIG on the 767-224ER when they still had the route! They need to get non-stops from NYC back to GIG pronto! It is a fabulous city-pair and I believe GIG flights to the US have a great future.

Also, only 10 767-224ER's and 16 767-424ER's isn't quite a large fleet for CO, is it? I would imagine they could do with quite a bit more.

Not exactly.

There is a "Boeing Enhanced Interior" for the 767 that's available as a retrofit. I think First Choice has it? It is not the same as the 777 cabin, but it is much nicer than the standard 767.

I flew on the a 764( as far as I can recall) with the new interior in buisnessfirst EWR-HNL-EWR. It was the best flight on an American carrier I have had in a long time. Good food, good rest, good service, and a nice clean plane.

CO50 usually switches from a 762/777 to a 757 and then back to 762/777 during the winters, from what I've flown between the two fortresses.

That's because CO's 767s have 32" of pitch compared to the 31" of pitch in its 777s and narrowbody (except 753) fleet.

Some European charter carriers have 2-4-2 in their 767s, which is very tight indeed.

In my opinion CO has the best and the newest fleet of widebodies in the US. We will see the B764 in Madrid again in May/June (sadly it's a "downgrade" from a B777).

Good lord do they need to. AC 767s are HORRIBLE. Not to bash a good airline, but their 767 are definetly substandard on the inside. Unconfortable and shabby. However, the AC A333 I flew on was very nice.

Here's a photo of the Boeing "Enhanced Interior" on a 767... It is fitted to the whole First Choice 767 fleet. As you said, it isn't exactly the same as the 777-style cabin on newbuilds, but it is far better than the classic 767 cabin.

LAN Chile also have the Enhanced Interior installed on some of their 767s, and Thomsonfly have it on their 767-200s, but not on their 767-300 fleet.

The CO 764s are superb aircraft in which to fly - nice pitch, great IFE and good service.

We used to get them into DUB (and indeed, 762s sometimes). However, unfortunately, CO is going double daily to DUB next Summer (and SNN), so they're doing both flights with 757s; aaaarrrggghh!

Incidentally, do CO's 762s have the 764 cockpit, or just the standard 767 "Classic" cockpit, like the 757s? If so, do they operate the 757/762 as a common type rating for pilots - and the 777/764, likewise?

IAH-EWR usually has one most of the year, sometimes more.

IAH-LAX used to get a 764 positioning flight, but doesn't anymore.

IAH-MCO used to get a 764 during heavy Disney traffic periods, but also, I have not seen that in the last couple of years since CO has had more 753s. Not enough premium traffic, but they need the Y seats.

They all have the traditional 757/767 cockpit. AFAIK, CO captains are type-rated on both the 757s and the 762s but not the 764s.

That's incorrect. The "type-rating" applies to all versions of the 757 and 767. Additionally, the training of pilots (Captains and First Officers) includes each sub-type; a CO pilot is qualified to fly the 752, 753, 762 and 764 (CO has also qualified it's 737 pilots to fly all 5 sub-types - 733, 735, 73G, 738 and 739). IIRC, certain currency requirements do apply to the 764. As the 764s generally fly long-haul international flights, the resulting schedules tend to go to relatively senior pilots, making it difficult for less senior pilots to maintain currency on the 764.
