More on this in today's Standard:

"...managing director Titus Naikuni...said KQ would fly three weekly flights using a new 200-seater Boeing 767-200, which the company will take delivery on July. He said they had planned to fly to Paris earlier than July, but were still being held back by technical and personnel logistics. "We decided to delay the flight as we do not have enough crew and aircraft at the moment,"...He said the delay was also because one of the terminals at the Charles de Gaulle Airport collapsed and is still under construction. He said the new route would serve French businessmen and tourists who have invested in East and Central Africa. Kenya received over 40,000 tourists last year. Most of these visitors had to either use charter or connect through Amsterdam".http://www.eastandard.net/hm_news/news.php?articleid=35503.

Well,

I guess that's good news for both France and KQ. KQ's flights into LHR and AMS seem to be doing extremely well, so with this addition some pax will be routed through CDG and KLM/KQ can offer more seats through AMS.

Kenya Airways is part-owned by KLM which means it is now part-owened by AF. So a link to CDG is obvious.

Why isn't KQ in SkyTeam yet?

It was just waiting to happen, a very normal move considering the KL interest in KQ and the AFKL group as mentioned before.

I'm wondering about that 767-200 though. I thought KQ's longhaul fleet was 767-300ER and 777-200ER. And would a 767-200 non ER do the NBO-CDG?

West Africa is becoming a though market for SN at BRU if KL/KQ fly from AMS twice a day to NBO and AF/KQ start operating the CDG-NBO route together; probably aiming at a similar situation in a not too distant future.

It sounds like good news for Kenya in any case and that's heart warming!

Yes, the "767-200" must be an error. The -200 hasn't been produced for over a decade and is no longer even offered by Boeing. The -200ER could comfortably do the NBO-CDG route but it would seem odd for KQ to confuse their rather coherent fleet with a one-off. Their 767-300ERs are configured with 216 seats in C and Y. Continental's 767-200ERs, for comparison, seat 174 in C and Y. So if it's a "200-seater" then my guess is another 767-300ER.

Here's the schedule:

KQ 112, NBO-CDG
Departs: 23:15 Tu, Th, Sa
Arrives: 6:45+1 We, Fr, Su

KQ 113, CDG-NBO
Departs: 11:00 We, Su / Departs: 14:20 Fr
Arrives: 20:30 We, Su / Arrives: 23:50 Fr

That's an awfully long time to have an aircraft sit in Paris. I guess they're waiting for in bound connections from AF?

On 15th Nov 2005 Boeing announced in its news release "Kenya Airways Signs for Fourth Boeing 777-200ER; Leases 767-300ER"that KQ was leasing a sixth 767-300ER during 2006, as well as purchase another 777-200ER in 2007. Could this be the new plane coming in July (called a 767-200 by Titus Naikuni?)

Not in much depth and only among other news items. This is a more relevant thread.

Seems highly likely, doesn't it?

All credit to KQ. I've flown them short- and long-haul and they're a respectable airline. Their fleet is constantly being upgraded with new aeroplanes and their network is growing. I wish them well!

(Now could they do something about Nairobi Airport please...)

Air France did serve NBO in the past, until summer 1997.
KQ also served Paris (ORY) until the mid 90s (A313 / B757).

Thanks to its relation with KLM, KQ will soon be an associated member of SkyTeam. So the re-opening of CDG, in complement of AMS, is somewhat not surprising and very logical.

The schedules chosen for KQ's flights shows clearly they are coordinated to offer the widest connections with AF's network.

I don't know yet if AF will codeshare on this KQ flight.

Not like it is parked at CDG all day ... and definitely appears to be there for connections.

A little off topic, but how is the once weekly LHR-Mombasa 772 route doing?

It is certainly not their for connections. How many flights depart NBO to match the 2350 arrival on Friday? And who would want to arrive NBO at 2350?

Must be the 767-300ER anyway, since I don't know which 772 would fly the route.

Something else off-topic, but is KQ still considering serving Miami ?

Why wouldn't KQ become a full ST member in the future ?
