So they're probably trying to get FA's for the international flights. What's wrong with that?

There has been an incredible language skills "drain" as people have taken early retirement. There are many bilingual flight attendants. There are just a few multilingual flight attendants left (of which i am one).
Tired of airline bankruptcies....EA/PA/TW and finally DL.

IMO the interesting part is the fact that they're recruiting for Arabic speakers. All the other languages are spoken in countries DL currently serves or is starting service to this summer. AFAIK, though, DL doesn't serve any countries where Arabic is the main/official language. Perhaps this is evidence of an imminent announcement?

While it could be, it wouldn't be the smartest move to hire people before even applying for the service. If they were rejected, then you're stuck with the added crew you hired.

Perhaps there are routes where they have plenty of Arabic speaking people connecting from Arab countries.

Budapest and Kiev are being started from JFK. No service to Lisbon, that I know of, but they serve GIG and GRU from ATL, which explains the need for Portuguese.

DL has served CAI and other Middle East cities in the past, so it could be just a matter of reopening routes for which they already have the authority. They also may just want to be prepared to start flights into a region in which they already have expressed interest. Finally, even assuming they couldn't fly those routes, it's not as though they're "stuck" with the crew; they could still fly other routes, just not as language-qualified crew.

Is that in response to the Arabic language question?  Confused Hebrew is the official language of Israel, of course, and it's the unfortunate reality that most people flying to Arab countries won't be connecting there, given the mutual denial of entry/overflight rights between Israeli airlines and those of Israel's Arabic-speaking neighbors.

There are Israelis who are Arabs and speak Arabic.

An Arabic-speaking flight attendent would be useful on a flight to CDG.

There are about a million Israeli Arabs who speak Arabic. Hebrew might be the official language, but all road signs are in Arabic as well, etc.

Most certainly, since DL operates three daily B767 to Brazil.

I took DL ATL-GRU Business Elite last December and was impressed with the effort made by DL crew in general, in particular with regard to the lagunage skills. The business class crew was fluent in Portuguese on this flight. Well done, DL!
