AF Dedicate

Sun Jan 29, 2006 4:23 pm

I was looking in the archives on the net and found out AF Dedicate flew to Atyrau,Kazakhstan with the Fokker 100! How long was this and did the aircraft get special titles and configuration? Also how are they doing and will we see more aircraft and/or destinations?

Isn't it a bit of a stretch for a Fokker 100 to go from CDG to Kazakhstan? Even in an all J configuration and with some extra tanks, it still sounds unlikely.

I thought they used an A319 LR for the route.

I think GSM is right. AF did not have any F100s for the Dedicate service.

They offer 82 seats on the A319 in J and Y classes. And operate to TAS, DOH, KWL, SSG, PNR and GUW as their sched destinations.

I think they were PLANNING to serve Atyrau (via Kiev with the F100)but didn't get the rights.

All the A319LR is, is an A319 with 2 ACT's. I suppose it's given a different name for marketing purposes.
The AF ones have got 82 seats in total (even though the UK site says 79). I can't find the split of business class to economy, but the business class is in a 2+2 configuration and extends to just aft of the wing. And the economy is 3+3.

Donder10 is right.
Atyrau was planned when "DEDICATE" services started but it was never launched, as well as Kish Island (Iran).

As AF didn't have enough A319ER, the flights to Atyrau were initially planned with a Brit'Air F100, with a special configuration and an enroute stop at KBP.
AF finally did't get the Traffic rights and never operated that route.

AF's A319LR and A319ER are configured with 28 Business (2x2) and 54 Y (3x3 32" pitch).
Some websites mention 79 seats because on longer flights, 3 seats in Y are not sold and are used as a Crew Rest for F/A. The Cabin Version sold in that case is 28J/51Y.

DOH, TAS and KWI, intially opened as a "Dedicate" service have been already closed : DOH & TAS because of poor loads and KWI because ... it was too successful : it required a bigger aircraft and so the line was fully transferred to KLM with additional frequencies from AMS, as AF didn't have enough A332 to operate the route itself.

In exchange, KLM stopped SSG, now operated 4 x Weekly from CDG.

"DEDICATE" destinations now are :
SSG, PNR, RUH, NKC, NDJ.

Any chance of additional dedicate destinations in Africa? I would like to see Bissau added, thereby providing the only European service, apart from TP.

Thank you , I know they didnt have enough A319/ER's for the route and it was gonna stop in Kiev. Why didnt they get the rights? Did Air Astana start Atyrau-Europe services?

DOH (Doha) was also dropped because of poor loads and that AF could send PAX via AMS on KLM which operate a 763 flight via DMM  Smile

FlySSC,
Do you think there is any chance of AF returning to Kuwait? It seems odd that AF would pull out because of a lack of aircraft, and hand the route over to KLM. Wouldn't it have made more sense to continue with the Dedicate service, and maybe coordinate their schedules to Kuwait with KLM? There were days when both AF and KL had flights, and days when neither of them did, which would restrict some travellers. I had the honour of flying AF's Dedicate service to Kuwait for the short time it was operational, and I found it to be fantastic. I definately preferred the A319s over KL's 767s (even tho KL's service is quite goo, and will deploy their A330's to Kuwait very soon). Any info you could provide will be most welcome. Thanks

Faris,
I doubt to see AF back to KWI soon, now that it was decided to transfer it to KL.
The increased frequencies and the upgrade from a B767 to an A332 show clearly that KL is now fully in charge of the developpement of the line in the name of AFKL.
I think an AF flight in addition to KL didn't create more demand, but shared the existing traffic. AF & KL were kind of competitors on the line which is exactely the opposite of what the new policy of AFKL is looking for.

I know that the "Dedicate" service is very praised by the passengers. I did quite a few DEDICATE flights when I was certidied on A319/A320 and the feed back from PAX was excellent.

A 6th A319LR is due to be delivered this year, and new destinations should be announced ...
