B6 JFK Flights To SJU Terminal Change

Mon Jan 30, 2006 8:55 am

I just booked on Jet Blue for flights to SJU from JFK and back for March 11th and March 20th and when I was done booking this message appeared:

Quote:

NOTICE for JFK-San Juan Passengers
Effective February 17th through May 2nd, all JetBlue flights arriving from or departing to San Juan, Puerto Rico will temporarily move to Terminal 4 at JFK. Customers are advised to check-in two hours before the flight’s scheduled departure time. Flights to and from Newark, NJ are not affected. Click here for more information.

Does anybody know why Jet Blue will swtich the flights from SJU and to SJU to Terminal 4? It's not like they are international flights like their flights to Santiago which depart and arrive into JFK.

Personally I don't mind since I love flying in and out of Terminal 4.

Alitalia-Could it possibly be to make room for more expansion?

Possibly. I know that they are in the process of adding six more gates to Terminal 6.

Its to make some space at T6. JFK-SJU typically doesnt have a lot of Cx pax so it's easier to send them to T4.

Yea, they operate 3X now to SJU and occasionally 4X on weekends and so on so I guess having like 3X out of the way in T6 they can increase more, but they need SJU back in T6 before summer when they have 7X again.

I believe May 2 is the target data for the new gates at T6 to be complete. With the new gates, we will be able to fit SJU bound flights back into T6. We are realllly tight right now.

How is B6 adding temporary gates to T6? Does anybody have a design image or something?

Surprised they are doing this though...Just seems like an unnecessary hassle. Maybe if they ended their pointless JFK-BOS flights, they'd have room.

They are building 6 gates out of gate 17 toward T5.

Why do you say this? These flights are very full every day and the route is doing great.

I've been against them from the start. It's not hard to fill a plane with the fares they are charging. Flights might be full and they might be popular with college students, etc but there is no proof they are doing well.

jetBlue supposedly bought the E190s for high-potential, poorly-served routes that could not sustain A320 service...Routes like JFK-Austin are perfect for the E190. Charing ~$40 for an E190 to sit 30 minutes waiting for takeoff at JFK for a short flight to BOS is an absolute waste IMO. There are dozens of more worthy routes.

Who says that they are only popular to students? I see with my own eyes who is flying this route everyday and I can tell you that many business people are flying us and growning by the day. Also what is different about wait 30 minutes to take of from JFK vs. waiting 30min (or more) at LGA before takeoff? Besides its not even 30 minutes...unless weahter related. The $40 fares were only introductory - where have you been?
I can tell you that these planes are pretty full so that is all the proof you need to know it is doing well.
Give this route a little longer dude, it's only been around a few months...you can't expect miracles in that time.

That's not really true - if you're selling your seats at $39 each, I don't care if your load factor is 100% on every flight; it doens't necessarily mean that you're making money overall.

for the MILLIONTH TIME: NOT ALL SEATS ARE SOLD FOR THAT PRICE. Those were ONLY introductory fares. Just like with other flights, we have really low fares and then there's a cap fare. So, those who book early get the really cheap fares and it goes from there.

Students, other people looking for cheap fares, etc. [The kind of desired] businessmen still take the Shuttle or Acela.

See above. Somebody might need to go to Boston on business and take B6 because of the cheap airfare; but the important businessmen who commute between Boston-New York-DC are not taking jetBlue's 190s.

The difference, my friend, is that jetBlue is not supposed to be a "traditional" carrier. You are supposed to keep planes in the air, not delayed at EWR.

If a full plane were proof, then many airlines would be profitable today.

Are fares going to suddenly jump up? Look at what you just said above. The route is already filling up planes; I just think it's a poor allocation of precious resources.
