Jet Blue's Embraers

Tue Jan 31, 2006 4:08 am

I recently read a news article that stated Jet Blue was having introduction problems with their new Embraers. Many issues were mentioned including: delivery delays, new type integration in to the fleet, and mechanical. Of these issues, I was wondering what type of mechanical issues has Jet Blue been facing with these aircraft? Any further info would be appreciated.

Apparently the computer systems are not yet very stable, and planes must be 'restarted' (sort of Ctrl-Alt-Delete I've heard Big grin) too often, which causes delays.
Of course they will find a workaround eventually, this sort of teething problems are quite common with the introduction of new types.

Sounds like the CR7 and Q400. QX has to re-boot the plane's all the time. Just they way these airliners seems to be going. Can't wait till we have a 747 or and A380 that has to re-boot on the taxiway.

Quoting Fokker70NG (Reply 2):

The actual restart doesn't take much time. The whole entire plane is shut down (lights and everything). So, as soon as the plane comes in and is cleaned...they restart it.

The major delays have been caused by minor glitches. The other day we had a delay inbound due to a brake warning light. So, the planes are fine but each time these small things come up, they cause delays. At my station, we have the contracted maintenance company meet the A/C and do a full inspection before departure.

More than anything, I'd say the delays are being caused by jetBlue being very careful when something minor comes up. Making sure that the slightest detail doesn't go unchecked before a departure...which of course is a good thing!  bigthumbsup

Overall, the E190 is a FANTASTIC a/c. After being on it, I can personally say that I enjoyed it....gives you that private business jet feeling without the cost!  Silly
