Help Here With USAirways 767-200

Tue Jan 31, 2006 10:44 am

Hello all. In August of this year I will be going overseas via USAirways in both directions on their B762's. What I need to know is how bad of condition are they on the interior.... We will be flying in coach unless I can get a good price for and upgrade for my son and I. Our flights are DTW-PHL-GLA-SNN-PHL-DTW. Is there any chance they will upgrade to their A330.?????? My son is 16 and 6'3.5 and I have a bad back injury. This is the reason I'm asking........

Thanks for you help

Well Ill tell ya man...

US Airways as a whole is a great airline...I would fly them any day over some other out there...

but the particular aircraft that I flew from Philly to San Juan was a little over-used on the inside...

Prior to that leg I flew BOS-PHL and the A319 I was on wasnt as bad.

It all depends on the luck of the draw.

Too bad you couldnt take Continental...thats the airline that I find has the best looking equipment in the interiors.

Can someone give specific examples of how "horrendous" the interiors are on the 767s? Were there rats running in the aisles? Was the seatback broken? Tray table fell on the floor? Were there sparks coming from the lights? Or are we talking about a few scratches and carpet stains here and there?

The chances of getting an A330 between PHL and SNN/GLA are slim to none. The US A330 fleet is already at full capacity operating other Trans-atlantic routes during the summer.

In fact, you may actually get a 757 on SNN and GLA runs, now that US is supposedly aquirring 3 ex-ATA ETOPS 757s for additional Europe Capacity. SNN and GLA were in fact rumored to be getting these 757s so that the 767s could be freed up for more lucrative routes.

Ive said it once on here and Ill say it again:

Depending on how US configures these 757s, transatlantic on a 757 is not bad in the least.

Ive done plenty of those flights, and its really no different that anything else.

I thought the comfort of your back was more important???. Either the 757 or 767 will be tight but bearable. I might encourage you to take some sleeping pills or use an alternative method to sleep most of the way.

I took the 757 in coach from CLT-SJU and the 767 in Envoy SJU-PHL last August. Both aircraft were a bit run down on the interior, but nothing that caused any discomfort. The 757 was in noticeably better condition than the 767. The Envoy seats are also showing their age, but are very comfortable and would be worth paying for if a good deal were found. In addition, US Airways has very nice service, perfectly acceptable but nothing extraordinary.

Actually if you had booked CO, which would be DTW-EWR-GLA, you'd definitely be on a 757. Why worry about the esthetic condition of the plane when your problem is the condition of your back and your boy's height - which incidentally isn't all that tall. Call US now and explain your back problem and ask if there is any way to pre-assign you 2 seats with extra leg room. It's been awhile, but I seem to remember the 2 sets of 3 center seats directly in front of each movie screen have extra leg room, but ask to be safe. Another alternative is the Bulkhead window/aisle if and only if they have cutouts on the floor. Mentioning your son's height will likely fall on deaf ears. Worrying about a problem never solves it - right?

It will get you there. It baffles me that somebody who's spreading the Word would be moaning so much about an airplane interior, to be honest  biggrin

There is also the option of DTW-ORD-GLA on an AA 763, or if you can get to SFB there will be flights on flyGlobespan's new 763. As for getting back to DTW from SNN on a widebody...well I guess for a guarenteed widebody it would have to be DL to ATL then back to DTW.

If you don't mind me asking, how are you getting to SNN from GLA?

Those 767s are pieces of s*it. If you can not fly oversees with US on the A330, then find another way, even if it costs you a little more.

I'm having the travel agent that is setting up this trip check into assigned seating at the bulk head and also to see what kind of price for an upgrade they might give me. Thanks for the information. I usually fly on UA going over the pond on their 777's in the economy plus section which is not bad at all..... But thanks for all the information.

If they were still Piedmont 767, perhaps service might be better?
