Flight 93 Movie On A&E Now

Tue Jan 31, 2006 11:30 am

Painful to watch (from the standpoint of watching the hijack occur). There's some glaring factual inaccuracies as well...

Brings back all the dread of that day -

As for inaccuracies, the altitude drop looked like a bit of 3D CG of the 757, but the ramp shots suggest it was shot here in Toronto (WJ 737, Canjet 737 were both spottable, as well as the nose shot at the gate of what was probably an AC A32S)

Macabre and horrifying to watch.

L727

p.s. BlueSky - CG probably went into production before the livery change (?) good catch -

[Edited to add BlueSky p.s.]

With all due respect, how often are they going to show that. Either its the one from the terrorist's perspective or some other biography of the event. I've seen it like 12 times already. Why do they insist on putting one of these shows on everyday?

Actually, personal opinion--picture gaffes aside, they're doing a good job depicting what might have happened onboard, and what happened with the phone calls from the airplanes to the family members.

God rest them....and God help the hijackers. May there be an especially hot place in hell for them.

I think this movie is about a touchy subject, so critiquing its every fault just doesn't seem that appropriate.

There are some huge inaccuracies, but this isn't an exact documentary. It is a movie trying to show the struggles of some people that went through an extraordinary circumstance. It is based on the truth.

Yeah the 747 style doors, and the curtains closed during taxi and take off,

That aside, it is just very scary to watch. I keep having to remind myself that this is no AIRPORT movie but reality.

Being a PROUD AMERICAN, It would suit me fine if they showed this stuff everyday!! As we should never forget what it would have been like to be on one of those planes, and in that horrible situation. I am one of those people who woke up and became educated after 9/11, and it lights a fire under me every time I am reminded of that dreadful day.

I thought it was kind of cheesy and in poor taste. Then they ran the last scene of the scar on the land healing itself with the passing of the seasons.....Then they ran the list of names....

I cried....

What got me was playing in my mind the absolute terror, then resolve of the passengers. Sometimes the suspension of disbelief that some movies/shows have give way to real life perceptions.

Talk about a lump in ones throat.

According to the news reports.... although we've seen the mistakes concerning the airplanes in the movie... They really did their homework regarding the events that took place. Listening to hours of audio... reading miles of transcripts from eyewitness accounts... Its one of the movies so far approved by the families of flight 93. I must say they were smart, grabbing anything to defend themselves... If they only had more time......

Overall, I found this film to be emotionally intense and very sad to watch.

I was quite shocked to read the first reply to the initial post was "Let's count the bloopers!!"

This movie was not intended to be a comedy. I am surprised some would see it in that way.

Looked like a 757 cabin to me, and that's where the majority of the story takes place. Why would the landing gear retraction shot make a difference to the story?

For a made for TV movie, I thought A&E did very well. Hollywood has done worse.

A New York Times article panned the Discovery channel's "The Flight that Fought Back" and said that this documentary was better.....I don't know about that....but it was still very good....One thing I didn't like was that the Livery was not the "right" one and that the boarding passes were more like US Airways than United......but anything historical about Flight 93 is heart-wrenching.....especially the fact that the pilots didn't lock the cockpit doors even after United sent them warning messages.......

Ironically I just wanted the one that was on History Channel that I had on my DVR still from 9/11 last year just last Friday (I saw it on 9/11 but I figured i'd watch it again). Then I was watching A&E during some program and saw an ad for UAL93 tonight.

I went and donated all I can right now...$50 (i'm a poor college flight student) so that was the best I could do. If I had a high paying job i'd go for a lot more than that.

I dont know if anyone else knows the site... http://www.honorflight93.org

Surprised they didnt post it on this movie, the history channel one they did at the end.

FYI - Supposedly they're going to build a memorial. The design is supposed to be absolutely stunning (at a cost $30,000,000)

Interesting info - I never knew congress wanted the memorial site built too! Nice to see the government involved in something like this: http://www.flight93memorialproject.org/timeline.asp

This movie was terrible, seamed very cheesy and poorly done. There was another movie a few months back that was very good used the actual phone calls and had interviews with families and was an emotionally powerful thing to watch. This had me waiting for Chuck Norris to pop out and save the day.

One thing I don't understand is why they even made this movie in the first place.

Why, you ask?

There is a movie coming out to theatres. It's not an A&E movie, but it has the same title and everything.

You guys watch the ATC documentary before this show about how they landed all the planes that morning? That was interesting but I am not watching the movie now.

I think you are talking about 'Clearing the Skies' on PBS. That was also a good one.

With the movie Flight 93 coming out in April I wonder if it will be any different than this A&E production?

If I recall correctly, it was only the terrorists that gained access to the flight deck that day (besides the original pilots). Once they realized they were being attacked, the terrorists took the plane down before passengers penetrated.

I realize there were many lives saved in Washington that day due to the actions of the people on board. I'll leave my evaluation of the scenario to actual evidence/recordings from that day rather than made for tv movies.

I saw bits and pieces and was not impressed.

A lot of things bothered me. One, was there was commercials. It's a disgrace to put commercial on something like this.

Secondly, they filmed it in YVR and YYZ. IMHO if they really cared about the story, they would of spent the extra money, filmed it at BOS, got the proper airplane footage and cabin interior.

The Flight 93 movie on Discovery was the best and most honorable film I have seen to date, in regards to this event. Discovery did this movie commercial free.

To me it's sick that A&E is making money off of what happened. Did anyone notice today on A&e was dedicated to 9/11? All the shows were some sort of documentary... And the promos for the movie just seemed to hollywood. I think it was a disgrace.

Too me it seems to soon for this type of film. As for having commercials in the middle, that really stinks.

I really think that some people would put a Pepsi sign on Mount Rushmore.

I feel that this must cause more pain for those who had someone on this flight. Why not let these people rest in peace.

I think that the reaction to those who have pointed out mistakes on the film suggests that this topic is still too raw.

Incidentally, where will the memorial be.

This isn't a biggie...but it sorta confused me in the beginning. When the passengers were boarding, they showed the tickets for the F cabin, and under class it listed "F". Normal. When the passengers from Y boarded they showed "C". Immediately I thought....why are there 3 classes on this plane? (Thinking C was for business). No biggie, just a little confusing at the beginning.

I watched the movie until the hijacking began, and I couldn't bear to watch any more. I guess I'm still recovering from that black day.

I thought the movie was well done, at least what I saw. Yes, I noticed a few bloopers in the short time I watched, but I agree with Boeingguy1 about the point of the movie. The movie was about some heroes who prevented Sept. 11 from being an even blacker day, not a portrayal of the operational aspects of the flight.

I have adopted Todd Beamer as my hero for that day. I wish they'd name something after him, instead of some of these politicians. Of course, there were a lot of heroes that day, on Flight 93, at the Pentagon, and at the World Trade Center. I admire all of them. I think it would be nice if every one of us would adopt a hero from that day to keep their memories alive.

I regret that my human failings prevented me from watching the rest of the movie. Perhaps the next time it's on I can watch the segment where Todd Beamer and the other heroes attack the hijackers. That's the part that counts, imo.

The commericals weren't there to be disrespectiful, but were there to pay for the making of the movie. I don' think A&E was out to make millions by airing this program. As you know the economy isn't booming so for A&E to find a sponsor to pay for the entire program would have been hard to find.

...which would have been a complete waste, since the flight departed from EWR.

Inaccuracies aside, this film was quite affecting. I found myself drawn into the story, and relived that day all over again. The most tragic part of 9/11, aside from the senseless loss of many innocent human lives, was the fact that a beloved part of my life and one of humanity's great triumphs (i.e. aviation) was corrupted into a means of destruction.

I have DVRed this movie and have yet to watch it. I however did the see documentery on A&E about flight 11. Wow, it was a very powerful portrayel of what had happened. Those F/As on flight 11 really did the best they could with what they knew.

I also seen the discover channel commercial free documentary on flight 93, and I would agree that no movie could get the messege about those hero's better then this one.

I am going to watch that movie tonight, and then i will post my opinions on it. But its really supposed to be informative to us, so we don't forget what those people went through. God Bless Them

Theres an interesting movie called 911 in plane site (check out website http://www.911inplanesite.com/) that asks the same question. It offers evidence and facts that suggests that a 757 never hit the pentagon. Its almost convincing. It also investigates the plane crahses into the twin towers. I recommend you to watch it.

AA77 did knock down light poles, one hit a car. As for UA93 the family members were able to hear the CVR in private and all of them remark that there were sign of a fight during the last few minutes of the doomed flight.

Yes JetBluefan1, same with me, Greek Orthodox Christian. While what you write is so true for me as well, I must confess that what these people did is way beyond my ability to forgive, even through what I was taught in my religious education. I did not need to lose any friend or relative in the events of 9/11 to develop the feelings I have now for these people and whoever and whatever motivates them to do such things.
