AA "More Room Throughout Coach" On 757s

Tue Jan 31, 2006 8:29 pm

I am going to NYC Mar 31 and want to fly into JFK via DFW. My question is, Does AA still have "more room throughout coach" on 757s? Last Apr 2005, I flew DFW-ORD, on an AA 777 and was in the second to last row and had a ton of leg room, I'm 6'2''. I don't know if this was a "more room throughout coach plane" but it seemed to have as much room as an exit row. This plane was continuing on to LHR. Is this just on flights configured for Int flights, or is this the "more room throughout coach" product, and as asked, is this still available on 757s?

As EHHO said, this is a negative. In fact, the B757s and the A300s were the first types that got AA's LRTC concept. The rest of the fleet is currently following suit. Not only that, but the B757 interiors are ancient and, despite new covers in some of them, unpleasant to fly in.

As said, MRTC are gone.

I am not a fan of AA's products (in fact, I am not a fan of any US airlines. Seriously, when you get a population which thinks that Jetblue is an excellent airline, you start to wonder what they have been brought up with before B6 came along. I just think B6's products are standard economy products which every US airlines should have by now. But I have digressed.) However, you will find they will get you from Point A to B efficiently and professionally. The 757 interiors are a lot to be desired. You will feel a little cramped, as there is only 32 inches of legroom. Basic inflight entertainment with overhead screen. Buy-on-board snacks.

Hope you have a good time in NYC  Smile

Hmmm...
Being from Dallas myself, and having flown AA's 757 product last summer DFW-ANC for 6.5 hours, might I suggest you find alternate means of transportation to Nueva York?
Perhaps you might like Continental's nonstop 735 service to EWR. Or, if JFK is the requirement, perhaps a connection in Houston would be tolerable?

My dad used to work for AA, back in the early nineties, and I love the 757, but man... that's an unpleasant trip.
Did I mention my seat smelled of urine?
And that the window frames were broken?
And that the movie didn't work right?
 Yeah sure
Look me up in the trip reports archive search, I believe I made reference to it in on of my trip reports last summer. There were only two trips I made, so it should be hard to find it!

I was actually a big fan of MRTC myself. AA lost me as a regular customer when they got rid of it. If they ever bring it back I'll certainly consider returning, but I doubt they ever will.

Sadly, the 757s and A300s reverted to their old seating configurations prior to MRTC. The MD-80s, 737s, 767s, and 777s saw only 1 row of coach seating added, so the cabins aren't as tight as they were pre-MRTC.

You could have said prior to LRTC or prior to the end of MRTC, but your current wording doesn't make much sense to me.

Can you provide a link or some other reference with actual specifics? I used to check sites like skytrax until I realized that they didn't seem to update their charts on a regular basis and didn't differentiate between aircraft and routes even though the airlines themselves often do.

SATX:

The 757s and A300s now have the same seating as before MRTC, which was introduced in 2000.

As for the rest of the fleet, I've only been on MD-80s, since seats were put back in. But, the last row of the MD-80 used to be 31. Now, it's 32. In addition, the coat closet between the first and coach cabins has been removed, and 2 more first-class seats have been installed.

Speaking of removing coat closets....it seems like other domestic airlines are doing it as well. I hear Delta is doing it...any others?

Being 6'4" tall, AA's more room throughout coach won me over when they started it. When they took it away, needless to say - i was not happy. That said, it's still more room than you'll find in a NW DC-9, and certainly it isn't any worse than a NW or UA 757 ride. I rode an AA 738, and have to admit to being a little impressed by room and comfort of the seats.

From what i understand.

for AA's fleet standard domestic coach configured aircrafts.

MD80-32 inches
757- 31
A300-31
777-32/33
767-32
738-32

AA 757/A300 have the same pitch as NWA DC9-31 inches.

However, if you are lucky, you would get an ex TWA 757 aircraft, but looking at AA's 757 schedules into JFK they are all AA 757, thats to bad.
