Saudi 747SP At EWR?

Wed Feb 01, 2006 5:15 am

Flew out of EWR early Sunday (1/29) afternoon and noticed a Saudi Arabian 747SP being loaded at Terminal B. Obviously this is an unusual sighting, first, SV does not fly to EWR, and second, a 747SP is a pretty rare find in and of itself.

I must say, the aircraft looked great, and I have never seen an RB211-equipped SP before, quite interesting!

Anybody know why it was there?

That plane comes through Bangor, Maine on occasion. It's clearly a VIP aircraft. There's a few pictures of it coming into Bangor on my BGR Yahoo web site (the photos section):

I last saw the SV 747SP at EWR back in May '05. The Saudi Royal Family truckster on their way to Wally World perhaps.....

Here's a photo of the SP in EWR and a more unusual visitor:

Actually, EWR for some reason tends to be a gateway point for Saudi aircraft.

I'm fairly certain this one was heading to our neck of the woods (RST) for a Mayo stop...believe this is the third 747SP that has come through RST this year. The flight was SVA7068

looks like that MD-11 was here just in time to get everyone of those Saudi VIPS out of the states before the 9//11 attacks. HHHMMM here on September 8, 2001.

Been on that MD-11, its probably the nicest interior ever on an MD-11. gold everywhere, showers, king suites, etc

That may be the final destination, but BGR is a main point of entry for them. I can't tell you the number of times I've seen them there. Once in 1997 I saw SWEET Boeing 707 in the new Saudi colors. Damn it was nice with all the crome polished. I read or was told once the way to tell Saudi Royal Flight from regular aircraft was the Royal Flight had the Arabic writting on them..were the airliner side did not.

That's false, all SV planes have the arabic logo.

Did this aircraft not bring a Saudi deligation to the UN? Something diffrent though: The RB211.. isn't there a serious shortage of parts for these engines now?

I understand this aircraft is often used by junior members of the Suadi Royal Family for shopping trips.

I stand corrected. I did notice on some of the previous livery aircraft some had the Arabic titles, some did not.

No,but my Greatest Airliners 747SP book shows a 'mock-up' of where the cargo door might have hone along with a forklift.

Quoting Door5Right (Reply 10):

I've read that the -SP brings the Royal family members over and an MD-11 freighter brings the goods home . Nice thing to think about when you're putting $2.50 a gallon gas in your car

Unless they have more than one SP, it was at IAH a few weeks ago as well.
